The only thing clear about what is happening in Lugansk is that it isn’t at all clear.

Pro-Kiev tweets say that Gov forces broke the airport siege, and rebels tweets say that they have taken control of the airport.

It appears both may actually be true. Gov forces may have broken the siege in the morning, and Rebels may have captured the airport and over-run a bunch of Gov forces in an unexpected counter-attack in the evening.

The Kiev-forces push to take the heights south of Lugansk has definitely failed.

Several videos show heavy fighting, and many fires south of Lugansk, including at the airport.

Rebel tweets say Donetsk Airport has fallen, and 300+ gov troops surrendered.

The Ukrainian military will keep pounding till all the Russian terrorists are gone. Will Putin invade on another front is the only unknown at this point. If he doesn’t then plans to liberate Crimea can begin.

~If Putin was so mad that Khruschchev gave Crimea to Ukraine, then why did Putin loyally serve Khrushchev as a member of the KGB?
The only thing Putin is mad about is the collapse of his beloved EVIL EMPIRE. ~

LOL. Learn some history. Khruschev has died before Putin was old enough to get any job.

Putin’s father was a Chekist who served in the NKVD, so Putin was raised to be a Chekist in a Chekist home from birth. He was fed Communist hate right from his mother’s breast.

By daybreak, forces under Russian control will have secured the N-S gas pipeline trunkline that passes near Donetsk, and all territory east to the Russian border, which is Russian speaking. Putin probably told Merkel at the World Cup match that he would be taking care of the threats to Russian transit gas crossing Ukraine. The EU could care less about Ukraine.

Reminds me of the Russian invasion of Georgia during the Olympics in Beijing.

Practically all Crimean citizens wanted to become part of Russia & are still pissed that it was just HANDED OVER to Ukraine as a “gift.

54% of Crimeans voted for Ukrainian independence in 1991. In Sevastopol City in was 57%.

Certainly in 1991 your statement that "practically all Crimean citizens...are still pissed that it (Crimea) was handed over to Ukraine as a gift" would be incorrect.

And since then, with a new generation of UKRAINIANS being born in Crimea, the number of Crimeans who are "pissed" that Crimea was Ukranian is probably even smaller.

Study some history.

Ironic.

What does the conflict in the Ukraine have to do with preserving the US way of life?

Everyone who responded to my comments accepted the Ukrainian government’s version of events without question. I submit that it is impossible to know what the truth is. Even if one believes Russia is the evil force behind everything, what on earth is the US going to do about it? Nothing! We are not going to get into a fight with a nuclear power over the Ukraine.

The Latest:

-Avakov calls Ukraine Maidan activists a “bunch of Misfits” and “Project FSB”
(Now that there is really funny...)

-All men age 18 to 50 in East Ukraine will be rounded up by Kyiv and send as Penal Battalions in the front lines. Deserters of those UA Penal Battalions will be send to “filtration camps” or criminally charged.
(Kolomoisky’s Right Sector Militia commander (Donbas-1”) was talking about doing this weeks ago....)

-Luhansk Airport terminal reported to be on fire.

-300 Ukraine soldiers surrendered in Saur-Mogila to NAF. (the previously reported to be cut off, and surrounded 79th?)

Reportedly, all is quiet in Lugansk at 7:00AM

In a civil war, those who refuse to choose a side are usually forced to, in the end.

...” Thanks for the reassurance”....

Glad you're reassured. Though after the latest firing ‘into Russia’ and the loss of life, Putin may decide to threaten “consequences”. But it won't be an invasion...he doesn't want Ukraine on ‘others’ terms, when they think he will.....he'll do that if and when he determines.

But I do doubt it will be “like” how he entered Crimea. He recognizes those in the East , unlike Crimea, do not want to join with Russia....rather be independent of Kiev. And that does make a difference in how he will determine what or not he does...and his approach.

However, the outcome of the Crimean vote—93 percent in favor of joining Russia—was as predictable as it is illegitimate. According to Vorobiov, even though there are not as many Russian supporters in Crimea as has been reported by the Russian media, the local Crimean population has no access to news sources other than broadcasts coming out of Russia. All Ukrainian and foreign media have been shut down.

The outcome, noted Fedets, “was already decided.” There were only two questions on the ballot: (1) “Do you want to be part of Russia?” and (2) “Do you want to be independent?” The ballot did not offer the option of remaining a part of Ukraine.

Source.

Stupid is as stupid does.
