Russia warns Ukraine of ‘irreversible consequences’ after cross-border shelling

MOSCOW— Russia is warning Ukraine of “irreversible consequences” after cross-border shelling from the battle-worn east struck Russian territory Sunday, reportedly killing one Russian citizen and injuring two others.

“This incident highlights the extremely dangerous escalation of tensions in the Russian-Ukrainian border and may have irreversible consequences, the responsibility for which lies on the Ukrainian side,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement Sunday, calling the incident an “aggressive action.”

Russian officials summoned the Ukrainian charge d’affaires to the foreign ministry in Moscow to protest the civilian’s death, which they say occurred when the Ukrainian army in the Luhansk region shelled Russia’s Rostov region across the border, hitting a residential building.

Ukrainian officials vehemently deny that they have fired on Russian territory and are questioning whether Russia is making up details surrounding the incident simply to build a case against Ukraine’s military.

~though there are not as many Russian supporters in Crimea as has been reported by the Russian media, the local Crimean population has no access to news sources other than broadcasts coming out of Russia. All Ukrainian and foreign media have been shut down.~

Ukrainian media is so corrupt that no one trusts it there.

The situation is largely screwed up because the west of the country relies on the German media and the east on Russian and neither media is impartial.

On the ground it looks like for example in Lviv an Orthodox Jew was beaten and carjacked. Russian media immedeately lands there to interview a victim who are angry and frustrated. They ask him are you afraid? He says sure! They ask were they Nazi? He says WTF? They say you know it was so brutal. He says, sure they are Nazi, even worse! You certainly don’t want it to be a daily occurance? Of cource not. This crime wasn’t prevented by your government, are you satisfied with that? Nope, they didn’t lift a finger! Do you want Russian government to do a thing? What can you do?

You can imagine a narrative. Nazis has attacked a pure soul and it’s going to be a daily occurance. Local Jews distrusts Ukrainian government which is probably in bed with Nazi and they ask what the Russian people can do to save them! They can add a footage of Neo-nazy rally there and cite a number of Jews repatriated to Israel from Lviv since 1992 to illustrate an ‘exodus’.

Now let’s see a German TV crew landed in Donetsk. They spent a couple days to find something really bad but all they find is a couple of drunk miners. And there is a luck on a third day: a dozen of senile old jerks flying a red banner by the Lenin statue. Of course they would film in a manner to make it looks like there are hundreds of people gathering.
They would ask them many questions like are you a WWII vets, what is your attitude, to Germany, Hitler, Bendera, were you a part of invading Soviet force in 1944, but most of these would be cut from a final production and their interview would look like these people hates ‘Nazi’ Germany, West Ukraine and dreams to get back to Germany to rape and pillage.

That would form a perception of each other for western and eastern Ukrainians.

I will always be happy for people who want to determine their own independence....regardless if I agree or not with those they might choose to align themselves with. Self-determination should always be celebrated. You are mistaken if you think you are "disturbing me"....posting 'polls' are not 'facts' as you seem to more than imply.

I just firmly believe there is such deep corruption throughout the politics of Ukraine, and remains so, as well as Russian politics (they are of the same mold) that only those like them can really understand the game they play and the way they play it.

The West has certain “expectations” of how other cultures ‘should’ conduct themselves in the governance of their countries, which more times than not confuses the matters at hand, as well as those they are attempting to change.

There is always ‘comfort’ in the familiar, even if it’s not good for a country...Ukraine and Russia are well accustomed to dirty politics and playing dirty....and this certainly includes their media.

Even our own Media has become vastly corrupt...and more propaganda and entertainment then news and the facts of.

Bottom line it is a European matter. Let Germany and Russia carefully play it. Both remember their past and don’t want to repeat it. Russia don’t want Germany to start all-Hitler on them and Germans certainly don’t want to learn Russian again. McCain and Nuland doesn’t belong there.

Well, apparently you can’t tell the difference between a “poll” and an “election,” so how am I to know what fits into that peabrain of yours?

“Even if one believes Russia is the evil force behind everything, what on earth is the US going to do about it? Nothing! We are not going to get into a fight with a nuclear power over the Ukraine.”

Ma’am, the necessity of containment of Russian ambitions is the same today as it was during the “Cold War.” Actually, the Cold War never really ended, this is just a continuation of that struggle. The USSR just changed names to the Russian Republic.

Preserving the U.S. way of life (our country’s interests) requires us to suppress Russian growth as well as Chinese growth. They not only are a military threat to us, they are an economic one.

I am 60 years old, and for most of my life it was recognized that the USSR and Red China poised a serious threat the the security of the United States and those few “free” allies of ours. This is just as true today as it has always been. Nothing has changed except that China is an even bigger threat and Russia is a reemergent one.

“With the Dawn comes clarity”-unknown

Things are much clearer this morning about what happened yesterday.

In Lugansk:
UK troops, including “70 Para”, drove down the west side of Lugansk to try and relieve the airport. At some point, they split into two columns, one went toward the airport, another drove in to a southern suburb, where it walked in to a storm.

At some point, the southern column got to the airport, but was driven out by a Grad barrage, after losing several vehicles.

Toward twilight, Rebels counter-attacked, heavily shelling the airport, and setting the terminal on fire, as well as a fuel farm. The airport is still surrounded, and Uki troops are holding the tower area, and the airport underground.

The counter attack also drove back the other column. A small group of Uki troops is surrounded in the residential area of the suburb, cut off from resupply. Uki’s took heavy losses here, but just how much is unclear.

As of this morning, Uki’s had retreated north toward Schyaste (sp??). Rebels counter-attacked north out of Lugansk as well, recaptured Metalist (a town just north of Lugansk), and are shelling Schyaste.

More: Another AN-26 was shot down near Izvarino, near the border, while trying to airdrop to a surrounded Uki unit. Reports say that one chute got out, pilot was captured. How many aboard is unknown right now. Video of the shoot-down (Missile) is all over the net, so Kiev can't deny this one.

It looks like Kiev is writing off their army in Southern Lugansk. At least 300 surrendered to the rebels yesterday, with their equipment, near Snezhnoye. They were out of food. The resupply routes are cut off, or under fire. There was a breakout attempt yesterday, but it failed.

OTHER REPORTS:

DPR is reporting that “Partisans” are active in and around Slavyansk/Kramatorsk. They say 10 Uki’s killed in the last three nights.

Outskirts of Lugansk, Mirniy and Olhovskiy, shelled by Ukr Grad today. It’s all residential areas, full of civilians.

Rebels are claiming another aircraft downed near plane near Lysychansk

Most of the corruption has been removed, it was Russian corruption and the Ukrainians are cleaning house...still a few more Russian rats to catch I suspect.

You show Russian propaganda pictures of people in Crimea celebrating (we will probably find out later the pics are from 1992 in Estonia, such is the BS from your Ruskie side). But even if they are people in Crimea celebrating the invasion by Russia, there are more people hiding in their homes because to protest the Russian invasion would mean certain death. So much for your propaganda photo session.

Didn’t Hitler manufacture a phony incident in Poland to justify his invasion?

#24: Hadn’t heard about Putin’s Tatar mistress or kiddies. Any sources for this.

Nothing like a little Tatar Sauce to sweeten up things.

The old KGB was behind a lot of the support for Moslem extremist groups including the PLO, PFLP and DPFLP (Arafat - KGN asset; Habash - avowed Marxists and possibly trained in Moscow; Hawatmeh - avowed marxist.

The Jumblatts of Lebanon - Soviet assets until Walid finally got tied of Moscow’s betrayals.

Hezbollah - Iranian front. Iranian arms - Moscow

Go to the website “www.usaSurvival.org” and look for their articles on the role of the KGB in supporting Islamic extremists. You’ll learn a lot of things that they didn’t teach you in school. Esp. see the ex KGB General’s report (Boris Preb***).

...”You show Russian propaganda pictures of people in Crimea celebrating”....

Prove those are false ......for there are a host of photos from Crimea when the people swarmed the streets celebrating their referendum and the annexation of Crimea...and that a far cry from any Russian propaganda. Even our own news agencies carried this.

You and others like you simply cannot accept the truth, nor will you ever, that the world isn’t going to be seen as you want people to see it.....and like liberals... any who disagree, regardless of the facts presented, you’re only response is to harass and mix words that come tumbling out your mouth.

...”Most of the corruption has been removed,... the Ukrainians are cleaning house”....

Oh really?... Ukrainian officials have sung the anti-corruption song for the last 20 years while stealing the people blind, or looking the other way while others abused their power with impunity.

Their new Pres. Poroshenko was one of them...he’s part of the old school Government the people wanted to boot...their problem is the same as it’s always been...they have the same ol’ parties and peoples playing musical chairs....different name, different position but the same game.

Everybody in Ukraine Gov. positions knows when the President changes they’ll be let go for who’s up next, so saying they got rid of people is nothing new...it’s expected...and you have to look no further than who ran for President to see just different positions but the same ol’ faces.

Poroshenko just appointed another Ukrainian Oligarch... ‘Yury Kosyuk’, an ‘agriculture magnate’ and one of Ukraine’s richest men, to oversee defense issues in the presidential administration...”Maidan” was a protest to remove corrupt oligarchs from power by replacing the corrupt oligarch they voted for with a different corrupt oligarch who is now filling almost every government position with corrupt oligarchs.....and you call this cleaning house? LOL.

The corrupt ‘still’ will exploit the same government loopholes, .... officials who were responsible for promoting anti-corruption in the past, (especially in Ukraine’s parliament), claim to be corruption fighters today. Yats, Poroshenko and others are all of the same cloth.....singing the same tune that’s been sung for years.
