Sen. Thad Cochrans (R-Miss.) campaign said Tuesday it screwed up its Federal Election Commission reports when disclosing $53,000 in get-out-the-vote cash payments, and will have to amend its filings.
The Clarion-Ledger of Jackson, Miss., reports that campaign adviser Austin Barbour said the campaign made a mistake when disclosing large sums listed as reimbursements for Campaign Walkers to staffer Amanda Shook.
Conservative blogger Charles Johnson reported Monday night that the reimbursements, including payments ranging from $8,000 to $15,000, violated FEC rules, which declare staffers can only be reimbursed for food and travel costs. Any other reimbursements to staff are considered loans, and cannot exceed $2,600.
Cochrans campaign has faced allegations of vote-buying after Johnson reported last week on the claims of a self-declared minister who said he was given large sums of cash and instructed to pay African-Americans $15 each to vote for Cochran in the runoff election.

Time to get these cheating frauds thrown in prison, especially the Barbours.
CHRIS MCDANIEL IS THE RIGHTFUL SENATOR OF MISSISSIPPI
Somebody is going to jail. It won’t be Thaddeus.
So tired of all these people in Washington being above the law....
"Hey, you screwed up! You trusted us! Have a beer and forget about it!"
Talk about low information voters.
“CHRIS MCDANIEL IS THE RIGHTFUL SENATOR OF MISSISSIPPI”
Idiot, this was a primary to chose the Republican nominee ofr the election in November.
The cochran campaign screwed up big time. The NRSC and Cochran campaign may well have cost Republicans a Senate seat.
You’re a little harsh there libby. The republican candidate was to win the November election since there was no real democrat opposition. Cochran decided he would create opposition by using democrat fraud tactics. He’s already cost himself the win. If Cochran doesn’t quit poisoning the waters and move off the stage soon, he’ll make it difficult for any republican in the state to be trusted again. Even a straight shooter like McDaniel could have trouble. Then that is probably what Cochran’s GOPe handlers are hoping will happen.
I used to be Treasurer of a PAC for a Republican group. One of the first rules I put in place for everybody - we accepted only checks and all payments were made by check. Requests for reimbursement had to be in writing, accompanied by invoices and authorized by the President before any check was issued. All non-profits need to tighten their money handling rules and institute hard and fast accounting and audit rules, regardless of whether they are for a political organization or some other type.
Really get tired of hearing horror stores about non-profits losing track of money or not being taken to task because they allowed fraud or theft to occur. Absolutely no reason for it.
Had McDaniel won, the general election would not be competitive. He would be the next senator as sure as Jeff Sessions will be reelected. Get your head out of your ass.
A Republican asking the FEC for a do-over? Best of luck with that one.
Austin Barbour needs to take a canoe trip down a soon to be flooded wild river.
