Its no surprise that Democrats are using the Supreme Courts decision to grant Hobby Lobby and their Christian owners exemption from Obamacares contraception mandate as political bait. No more birth control! War on women! liberals cry, hoping this fear mongering will drive more single women to the polls. There's just one problem: This demographic doesnt care about midterm elections.
In the NY Timess own words:
But the challenge for Democrats is that many single women do not vote, especially in nonpresidential election years like this one. While voting declines across all group in midterm contests for Congress and lower offices, the drop-off is steepest for minorities and unmarried women. The result is a turnout that is older, whiter and more conservative than in presidential years.
This graphic better outlines the Democrat Partys major issue:
So, why the consistently low turnout? Here's what Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi thinks,
A lot of these are single moms, theyre young, and young people dont know when theres an election. It isnt any lack of civic-mindedness. Theyre just living their lives in a different way than, say, seniors are.
Whatever the reason, this lack of political motivation among single women may mean a lack of Democrats in the Senate:
Single women, Democrats say, will determine whether they keep Senate seats in states including Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Michigan and North Carolina and with them, their Senate majority and seize governorships in Florida, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, among other states.
So, cue the panic and cue the desperate war on women strategizing:
The party is using advanced data-gathering techniques to identify unmarried women, especially those who have voted in presidential elections but skipped midterms. By mail, online, phone and personal contact, Democrats and their allies are spreading the word about Republicans opposition in Washington and state capitals like Raleigh to pay equity, minimum wage and college-affordability legislation; abortion and contraception rights; Planned Parenthood; and education spending.
Unsurprisingly, Big Abortion has already thrown its hat in the political ring, especially in the state of North Carolina:
Emilys List and Planned Parenthoods action fund are heavily engaged, and they will spend $3 million each on their top priority: Ms. Hagans race here against the Republican Thom Tillis.
Democratic candidate Kay Hagan described her mobilization strategy as, Heels on the ground.
Isn't that considered...sexist? Equating girls with shoes? We know what happened in DC when those politically incorrect ads emerged on the metro.
But, desperate Democrats dont care about hypocrisy and they dont care about the truth, choosing instead to push their false narratives:
The policy issues that unmarried women care about are legitimately under attack, said Kelly Ward, executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
No wonder so many single females are staying home instead of voting. Hopefully more women will choose to reject this nonsense.
I don’t know what the Democrats are going to do, but this seems a safe prediction. I’ll also toss out what Republicans will likely do: Run away from this decision as fast as they can. They’ll not tout the religious exemption, they’ll not defend the decision, they’ll try their hardest not to mention it at all, thus hurting THEM in the midterms by making them seem what they are - weak kneed liberals that just don’t have the guts to call themselves Democrats.
The mid-terms don’t have an “American Idol” format like the presidential elections, so the shallow free-stuff army doesn’t take notice.
You called it just right. I suspect some of them will also add a few words of support for gay marriage.
How disconnected does someone have to be to not know an election is coming up?
Exactly, but if you ever watch Watter’s world on the Factor, then you know
They would be going after single women that happen to work for a company that subscribes to a health care plan that covers 16 contraceptives but not four abortion drugs. I am sure they can fool many of them though
When does crying wolf stop being effective?
Years ago there was a gubernatorial election in VA. THE issue was abortion, with the standard party difference between the candidates. Dems beat the abortion issue to a fare-thee-well. It wasn’t just single women who rushed to the polls. It was also, in large numbers, college-educated, middle class white, married women.
They will be in a catch 22 position with their perceived single female voter base vs available Libertarians, Independents and Republican single female voters!
The GOPe is not very smart, but I expect real Republicans can continue to seed the real truth, that abortion on demand, or “choice” will very quickly become abortion on command.
Even the Dems realize women voters don’t think deeply about the issues.
Which is why our Founding Fathers didn’t give them the vote.
0bama was elected twice.
Too bad people like you and I and all of us here at FReerepublic have to suffer the consequences of so many people that don't have a basic grip on reality.
A lot of these are single moms, theyre young, and young people dont know when theres an election. It isnt any lack of civic-mindedness. Theyre just living their lives in a different way than, say, seniors are.
I’d be willing to bet, there’s not one single woman at F.R. who does not know that there’s a very important election in Nov., 2014!
Liberal women, like liberal men are just plain ol’ stupid.
