I was expecting maybe a King Kong sequel, or Mighty Joe Young, but instead got this screen adaptation of a Eugene O’Neill play. Earlier in the year we saw William Bendix as the doomed sailor, in “Lifeboat.” It seems his luck hasn’t changed with this role. I don’t recall another Susan Hayward role where she played an unsympathetic character. “The Hairy Ape” is not available from Netflix, but it is on youtube. Link below.
