The National Journal ^ | 07/01/2014 | Shane Goldmacher

Posted on 07/01/2014 9:10:26 AM PDT by TheConservator

It's going to be a little more difficult to ferret out which members of Congress are lavished with all-expenses-paid trips around the world after the House has quietly stripped away the requirement that such privately sponsored travel be included on lawmakers' annual financial-disclosure forms.

All the more reason for a COS to install term limits.

The main difference between the Dems and Reps is the Dems are upfront in-your-face corrupt while the Reps are sneaky sleazy corrupt. No wonder they both hate the Tea Party. I am truly at the “what difference does it make?” stage with both parties.

I suggest that each congress critter should have patches sewn on them showing who sponsors them, kinda like a race car driver. Every time they appear on TV there should be a crawler listing their sponsors.

The GOPE controls the House, not the Senate. Not that there is much difference between them these days.

All we need is more Republicans you know. We need a Republican senate. You don’t think so? Well, you just voted for Hillary!

That would be awesome, until it gets overturned by SCOTUS. COS is a nice idea, but we’d better be prepared to use physical force to keep it in tact. Which will essentially be nullification, which we could just do without spending time and money on COS.

Probably would not have happened if Eric Cantor had not lost...

If Eric Cantor was still Speaker of the House, he might have objected to this, and somehow blocked this...

Maybe the new Speaker did not know what was going on, and could not block it...

Cantor was never Speaker if the House, he is at this moment the Majority Leader of the House I think.

Almost every member of congress should either be jailed or simply thrown into the Potomic river. Should have happened long ago.

[ All the more reason for a COS to install term limits. ]

I am sure congress can instead propose a new amendment to limit themselves.... ;)

But we cannot have state legislatures propose something, that would be scary.... so very scary, Oh My God, they might take their power back from washington.. and we can’t have that....

Better keep that to yourself or half the freeples might wet their beds thinking about it....

Because COS is a bad code word here, bad bad bad..... Because people don’t bloody understand it, but boy howdy will they whine about it....

COS is a viable exit ramp from the road to the cliff we are on right now. SCOTUS cannot over turn a Term Limit if it is ratified, they can only “Interpret it” which in the case of Term Limits is pretty Cut and Dried, if they try to mess with something like it may bring the phrase: “hung Jury” to mean something different.

Any COS must use clean simple plain language in any thing it proposes before sending it off to 3/4 for retification. Otherwise you are right that the SCOTUS may interpret it weirdly. The simpler and more plain the better. Amendments should not be written for the Lawyering class, but in plain language for the ones who consent to be goverened.

The deletion was made by the House Ethics Committee.

House Ethics Committee Chairman Michael Conaway, R-Texas, did not return a call for comment; ranking member Linda Sanchez, D-Calif., referred questions to committee staff. The committee declined to comment.

"This is such an obvious effort to avoid accountability," said Melanie Sloan, executive director of the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. "There's no legitimate reason. There's no good reason for it."

As you say, there's not much difference between the GOPE House and the Senate.

Not to worry. Haley Barbour will soon be in charge of the RNC.
