Federal lands need to be returned to the states. The BLM and EPA need to be abolished.

So, how ridiculous is this?

I have seen eagles land on the crown of an operating drilling rig.

I have seen an owl ride the kelly hose, and other owls perch on light stanchions looking for mice making their way among pallets of drilling mud components.

I watched as deer crossed the rig location by the pipe racks (75 feet from the wellbore), evading hunters.

I have worked where bighorn sheep lined up on a ledge above the rig and watched us drill, I'm guessing out of curiosity.

The animals don't care.

They don't get hurt, and life goes on for all of us.

This is more of the weapons-grade anti-energy stupidity out of this administration, and this winter America will feel the bite.

...has raised concerns the action would inflict economic damage.

Raised concerns? Inflicting economic damage is the whole object of the exercise.

Little Hens on the Prairie
The further hilarious adventures of Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn.

http://online.wsj.com/articles/little-hens-on-the-prairie-1403219997

According to an AP report, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources spent $7,363 this spring on 16 flights for 91 endangered greater prairie chickens, or about $81 a bird. Do the chickens qualify for frequent-flier miles? The three-year relocation program is funded by $337,500 in federal grants, $181,730 in state revenues and a $30,000 donation by the Audubon Society. About 60% of the money pays for personnel who transport the birds. In other words, this is more a support program for government workers than for endangered species...

...And in other news, the Department of Natural Resources has announced it is planning a survey to gauge the public’s opinion toward black bears. Illinois doesn’t boast a black bear population, but a cub was recently spotted in the state. Biologists suspect he was lost, not unlike the Governor.

So we ban energy development because of a grouse but allow wind turbines and solar panels that slice up and fry eagles and hawks and all sorts of other birds on a regular basis.

Articles like this beg the question: so what?

The people of CO and UT have shown time and again that when push comes to shove they will do little or nothing about it, so why is it an issue? This is their state, their land, and their future. If they want to let dear leader turn their states into nature preserves for blue tongued slugs, it isn’t a concern of mine.

Why couldn’t they just work out some arrangement between the government and the energy companies like they did with that desert lizard down in Texas?

And if they so badly want these chickens and grouses to survive, why don’t they incentivize people to put them in zoos, farms or modest preserves? Maybe these birds are tasty little buggers. :-)

It’s also a little disturbing that I don’t get outraged at this stuff anymore. It’s the new normal.

Somebody with the funds and standing really should sue to have the ESA overturned, so that this country can put people first once again.

That's okay, because there's enough oil and gas in CO and UT to supply the whole world for a million years. Export all of it to the free international markets!

[Little irony and humor there. Most folks in politics have truly worked hard at sponsoring the media and deserve a vacation to Venus. More sincerely, you should know that local, bipartisan NIMBYs on the Rockies have blocked uranium exploration for a long time.]
