Currently, federal trademark law does not allow the registration of any names that bring individuals or groups into contempt or disrepute. The PTO cited this rule in their decision regarding the Redskins

Every time I see “The Gap” sign, I think about the mentally challenged with nothing between their ears. It really offends me.
The “Fighting” Irish? You can’t get much worse of a stereotype than that. As an Irishman, whenever I see it I want to punch someone,
How about Aunt Jemima? Uncle Ben? Savage Arms? For the PC Nazis, THAT would be a twofer! Native American stereotypes, plus those eeeeevil g*ns!/sarcasm;)
One can tell that America has truly gone off the deep end when they have to quibble over something as inane as the name “Redskins”. God only knows what PC Marxist will rant about next.
Speaking of which, how about Lucky Charms cereal. For the 50-odd years that stuff has been around the ads feature a caricature of a green rainbow-chasing leprechaun acting silly and superstitious with a heavy Irish brougue. I’ve yet to hear the Ancient Order of Hibernians or the Emerald Society lodge complaints about this. Or Herman Cain’s business, Godfather’s Pizza. I’m surprised Pelosi, Andrew, and/or Mario Cuomo, etc. didn’t try to score cheap political points complaining that this name evokes negative stereotypes of those of Italian heritage.
I think this type of BS, along with many other wrongs, will contribute to CW 2. If it happens, don't try to head north on I 80. It will be a parking lot. I was thinking in the area of Cache Creek or Winters or Dixon, or the Cal PERS building on Q street, or Raley Field. No one would find us there. Come get me you turkeys.
This week the Niggas With Attitude (NWA) biopic is trending in social media.
For shame our government is bigoted.
In typical liberal derisive fashion, the NCAA assumed the Sioux were incapable of being sufficiently offended and decided to be offended for them. They found a couple of grievance studies types to voice opposition, and a tradition went down after a long fought battle (some six or seven years).
The Sioux, a warrior tribe, had no problem with the nickname, and the logo was respectfully accurate in its depiction of a warrior.
PC is BS, and I won't play the game.
Does anyone remember little black Sambos’ restaurants. There are still Sambos’ after they took away the “little black”.Sambo was a character in a book.
There is also a Coon Chicken Inn in Ca. where we went once. I believe there are three different inns. Trademarked?
I am offended at the name of the New England Patriots. There isn’t a patriot left up here.Im offended.
They did the same thing with My alma mater. Said the name was derisive and insulting to the Indian tribe with that name. The Indian tribe’s response? “we don’t mind. In fact We kinda like it.”. They changed the name anyway. Liberalism is a mental illness.

There is still one in Santa Barbara, on the beach.
I’m still waiting for the NCAA to take down Florida State...oh wait, they have more money than UND. UND plays better hockey than FSU anyday.
I live in North Dakota and I wear a Fighting Sioux hoodie all the time.
Every where I go here everyone has some form of the Fighting Sioux logo, especially on the Three Affiliated Tribes rez and they are not Sioux
“I am offended at the name of the New England Patriots.”
Too bad.. It is acceptable to offend a conservative!
In looking at the article, there are some pretty obviously egregious examples of bigotry, bias or ridicule the Government has allowed to be trademarked.
To me, it would be an insurmountable task for the government as a defendant in this case to explain why “Redskins” is offensive while, say, “Cracka Azz Skateboards” is not.
Little black Sambo was an Indian...
