Earth may have underground 'ocean' three times that on surface

Scientists say rock layer hundreds of miles down holds vast amount of water, opening up new theories on how planet formed

After decades of searching scientists have discovered that a vast reservoir of water, enough to fill the Earth’s oceans three times over, may be trapped hundreds of miles beneath the surface, potentially transforming our understanding of how the planet was formed.

The water is locked up in a mineral called ringwoodite about 660km (400 miles) beneath the crust of the Earth, researchers say. Geophysicist Steve Jacobsen from Northwestern University in the US co-authored the study published in the journal Science and said the discovery suggested Earth’s water may have come from within, driven to the surface by geological activity, rather than being deposited by icy comets hitting the forming planet as held by the prevailing theories.

“Geological processes on the Earth’s surface, such as earthquakes or erupting volcanoes, are an expression of what is going on inside the Earth, out of our sight,” Jacobsen said.

“I think we are finally seeing evidence for a whole-Earth water cycle, which may help explain the vast amount of liquid water on the surface of our habitable planet. Scientists have been looking for this missing deep water for decades.”

Jacobsen and his colleagues are the first to provide direct evidence that there may be water in an area of the Earth’s mantle known as the transition zone. They based their findings on a study of a vast underground region extending across most of the interior of the US.

Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.

Genesis 2:5 5 Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth[a] and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.

Folks insist on looking for naturalistic explanations for the flood. If Genesis is to be read literally then God suspended His natural laws, performed a mighty miracle, then erased all signs of it.

“If the surface of the earth is 3/4 covered by water, how can the remaining 1/4 contain enough underground water to fill the rest 3 times over?”

There is ‘land’ at the bottom of the ocean. Watch Waterworld.

Hydroplate theory seems more and more credible. God is amazing, indeed!

No one said anything about all of this chemically-bound water being located only beneath the "remaining 1/4" of the Earth's surface (i.e. only under the continents, aka "dry land").

Rather, the Earth's mantle - which is hundreds of miles thick (as opposed to the oceans, which are at most 6 miles deep), and which is located beneath the oceans and the continents - contains so much chemically-bound water that it could (if somehow chemically unbound and transported to the surface) cover the Earth in, say, 20 miles of water.

Regards,

Thank you! From some other posts, that is a necessary clarification.

That HE is.
I just heard of Walter Brown's Hydroplate model a year or two ago. I like his You-Tube presentations.

This one is in Germany. But the Soviets attempted to dig the deepest hole ever. I think they reached nine miles. The amazing thing was how hot it was and the stunning amount of water they found.

There’s a theory, called “the hot biosphere” that all oil is produced very deep by bacteria and filters up. Wells that were pumped dry in the 40’s are producing again, which is unlikely if they were from ancient dinosaurs. Deep drilling in Sweden and off Viet Nam produced oil at depths where there were never any dinosaurs or ancient buried forests and bogs.

We know less about the inner Earth than about almost anything else. (And, darned little about the deep oceans.)

This is evidence that Brown was dead wrong. What they discovered is that there is NO FREE water down there. It is tightly bound within the rocks.

Interesting. In 2010 this author described the EXACT same thing in his book called “Flood”!

Eurotwit, have you ever seen a communist drink a glass of `ringwoodite’? Of course you haven’t. All they drink is vodka.

I myself drink pure spring water or grain alcohol.
Now they want us to drink crushed rock, or `ringwoodite’. Rocks contain minerals, one of which is ... I suppose you know which one: fluoride!

Well, I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Genesis 1:1-3: In the beginning God, created the heaven and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters, and God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light.

It’s wonderful what toddlers learn at the knee of their Bible-reading parents and what so-called learned people do not know.
