Clinton: Don’t provide military aid to Iraq
The Hill ^ | June 13, 2014 | Rebecca Shabad

Hillary Clinton on Thursday said the U.S. shouldn’t provide military assistance to Iraq despite the threat from an Islamist militant group that has captured major cities. [READ MORE]

“I agree with the White House’s rejection and reluctance to do the kind of military activities that the Maliki government is requesting, mainly the fighter aircraft to provide close support for the army and also to go after targets,” the former secretary of State said on BBC’s “Newsnight.”

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki reportedly asked the Obama administration to launch airstrikes against militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The group, with ties to al Qaeda, has seized control of a swath of the Middle East including part of Syria through central Iraq. The White House, however, has so far refused to provide direct military help, even with a number of lawmakers calling on Obama to launch airstrikes as ISIS advances toward Baghdad.

Obama said Thursday that he is considering all options, but administration officials ruled out troops on the ground.

Clinton said that al-Maliki must step up and defuse sectarian tensions by creating a broader governing coalition.

“That is not a role for the United States,” Clinton said. “There needs to be a number of steps that Maliki and his government must take to demonstrate that he’s committed to an inclusive Iraq — something he has not done up to date.”

Al-Maliki must demonstrate that he is a leader for all Iraqis, and “not just a sectarian slice of the country,” she added.

Clinton also said that sending U.S. ground forces back to Iraq “is not going to happen.” But added she would “never say never, the world is unpredictable ... but not in any foreseeable future.”

Clinton, the Democratic front-runner for president in 2016 if she runs, called her vote for the Iraq War a “mistake” in her new memoir Hard Choices.

“I deeply regret the consequences,” she said.

By the end of Obama’s reign of terror, there will be an oil rich country totally controlled by Al Qaeda

Well this was the Kenyan regimes plan from the start: Assisting the Muzzie radicals to take over the entire middle east, so why would he send military aid? The only military aid he sends is to Al-Qaeda so they can kill our Ambassadors besides everyone else.

Gosh I hate to agree with the witch, but I do.....we cannot afford it. Like some have said earlier....let them kill each other and see who is left at the end and then perhaps do something if necessary. Everyone is still blaming President Bush, but I have a hard time with that because President Obama is the one who sent the troops home.

I believe the jihadists are backed by the Turks, Saudis, and State.

Obama withdrew his support for Maliki, withdrew his US protection, and now an army of jihadists is knocking at his door.

So, obviously, Clinton doesn’t think we should help Maliki, even though when we left we said we’d be right next door if he needed us... We’re right next door alright. Our proxies are coming right at him.

Must be primary season. She’s suddenly acting like Code Pink.

She was on the wrong side of history the last time she voted for the war....she wants to ensure she does not make the same mistake. I don’t consider it “Code pink” to not want to go BACK to Iraq....been there, done that...got the tee-shirt. I supported the Iraq Ware in 2003, but we are DONE!!! I do not want to go back especially under this leadership.

She talks like somebody who is being blackmailed. Al Qaeda got her by the short hairs in Libya. Our foreign policy is being run by blackmailers.

If all it’ll cost is a few bombing runs to keep AQ at bay, why not? Agree to Maliki’s terms under the provision we get a huge sum of cash plus an agreement not to prosecute if we sty in the are.

We could ply a winning hand from this still. Unles we wlk awy completely and let AQ have Iraq.

The liberal answer to every thing - diversity.
Clinton is clueless as usual. This war between the Sunni and Shia has been going on since Mohammed went belly up. Each believes they are the true muslims and the other are not. There is only one thing in the world that both agree on. That America is the great Satan and we all must die for them to succeed..

Wonder if she knows how stupid this make her sound?
You know sorta like Obama is only the leader of the far left slice of America..........

Everyone is still blaming President Bush, but I have a hard time with that because President Obama is the one who sent the troops home.

Bush did not plan to end the war in any fashion similar to the cut-and-run strategy of the Obamanation. Whether or not is was wise to go into Iraq is debatable; but once in, ending it like the messiah tried to do could only result in a worst-case scenario, Iraq's disintegration and a terrorist tskeover, which it has.
