In an odd coincidence (which would only qualify as "ironic" in the allanismorrisette school of language), both candidates for Virginia's 7th congressional district are professor's at Randolph-Macon College.
Each has his own RateMyProfessor page.
A typical positive review:
"Dr. Brat is unparalleled in his knowledge, guidance with learning, caring about his students, and his ethics. He relates all content to real world scenarios and encourages healthy participation in class. Hint: Ask questions as they arise, visit during off hours for extra help, and don't procrastinate. This class was challenging but I learned a ton!"
A typical negative review:
"had several courses with him; difficult for him to stay on material, sometimes difficult to follow, but he drills the material into your head; will seriously say the same thing in about 10 different ways to make sure you get it. not that hard
One of three positive reviews:
"BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!! I have never had a better professor. He is passionate about what he teaches and makes you want to learn. Take any and every class you can with him. :)"
The one negative review:
"Unclear, rambles."
Not anything really bad said about either of them. Both look like they'd be better for the office than Cantor.
Go Brat!
Gee, I have to wonder why Trammel would have gotten three positive reviews just yesterday. Any bets that they wouldn’t have been posted had Cantor won?
big deal. We got rid of Canter....that is most important. Getting rid of Paul Ryan August 18th is big time important.
Brat teaches Economics, but what subject does Trammell teach? Haven’t seen that mentioned.
Followed the link. Trammell teaches Sociology. Just what we don’t need in Congress if his politics are typical of that group, or just typical of the Dim party.
From the Washigton Post article Meet Jack Trammell, the Democrat who will face David Brat, the man who beat Eric Cantor, at the college Trammell "joined the colleges faculty in 2000 after doing graduate work at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He has directed the schools disability support services department and its honors program and serves as an associate professor of sociology, specializing in disability issues in higher education."
Economics is hard. "Sociology, specializing in disability issues in higher education" is about teaching teachers to teach students with disabilities?
No wonder the reviews for Trammell are what they are. Consider the audience.

As Bill Buckley once noted, Sociology is a fake discipline.
I suppose he is probably in favor of wheelchair ramps.
Yeah, the Dim candidate teaching sociology. You won't find too many Republican professors outside the business, engineering and hard science fields, and you won't find too many Dim professors in those fields.
Once I found myself enrolled in a sociology course, which, after having had a number of economics courses, struck me as, well, dumb. I made myself easily the most disliked person in that class as I constantly berated the course content. But I didn't care what they thought of me (part of my charm) and I easily made an "A" in the course, which spoke well of the fairness of the professor.
"Unclear, rambles."
As to the one negative trait, wouldn't Trammel be better suited in the Senate, anyway?
Trammel signed up for the democrat position only on Tuesday morning, the last hour of the last day it was possible.
Until Tuesday morning, the democrats had NO candidate at all.
And large print textbooks.
Deep thinkers, sociologists.
I tend to agree with Bill Buckley. My undergrad BA degree was a joint major of Religion/Sociology with a minor in Communication. It’s a good thing I was a “mature” student over 50, so I was able to see the uselessness of Sociology. Most of it is pure bunk. Mostly the courses are designed to produce “progressives” who have”feelings” and “caring”.
My answer was "Sociology is the practice of taking things everyone knows exist, putting them in groups, and giving the groups names nobody remembers."
I received a zero on that question, but I stand by my definition.
