New York Times: Demonizing Sgt. Bergdahl
The New York Times via the Salt Lake Tribune ^ | Friday, June 6, 2014 | Editorial

Posted on 06/07/2014 6:03:45 AM PDT by kristinn

Four months ago, Sen. John McCain said he would support the exchange of five hard-core Taliban leaders for the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

"I would support ways of bringing him home," he told CNN, "and if exchange was one of them I think that would be something I think we should seriously consider."

But the instant the Obama administration actually made that trade, McCain, as he has so often in the past...

SNIP

Though we criticized the administration for ignoring the law in not informing Congress of the transfer of the Taliban detainees 30 days in advance, leave it to Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and other hyperventilators to claim that continued release of prisoners from Guantánamo without prior notice is now considered an impeachable offense, a ludicrous leap.

SNIP

This duck-and-cover response is the result of the outrageous demonization of Bergdahl in the absence of actual facts. Republican operatives have arranged for soldiers in his unit to tell reporters that he was a deserter who cost the lives of several soldiers searching for him. In fact, a review of casualty reports by Charlie Savage and Andrew Lehren of The New York Times showed there is no clear link between any military deaths and the search.

SNIP

And a classified military report shows that Bergdahl had walked away from assigned areas at least twice before and had returned, according to a report in The New York Times on Thursday. It describes him as a free-spirited young man who asked many questions but gave no indication of being a deserter, let alone the turncoat that Obama’s opponents are now trying to create.

If anything, the report suggests that the army unit’s lack of security and discipline was as much to blame for the disappearance, given the sergeant’s history.

The NY Times has no problem when a Republican or a conservatives is “demonized”, with or without any basis (the examples are too many to list, and besides we here all know them.

So it is not about how someone is being “demonized” they have a problem with. It is the fact that in this case the President has done something stupid (and some say may be illegal) and so rather than report the facts, they are pounding the table.

from the editorial:
“But the critics seeking political advantage don’t care about the life or mental state of a particular soldier, or of a principle of loyalty that should provide comfort to any soldier in danger of capture. They live only for the attack.”
Obama is really pi$$ed and the fellatious Press reacts.

I wonder how many on the NYTimes editorial board have been in command in the Afghan War or have any idea of what real military have to put with. Lying Ba$tards.
Hell they can even acquire a profitable enterprise (Boston Globe) with turning it into Obama or hire a woman CEO without embarrassing themselves.

CNN’s Smerconish did an hour-long program this AM slamming Barry and the MSM for lying about Bergdahl and I would think that McCain could be forgiven to a certain extent for Barry’s military brass hiding Bergdahl’s desertion/(defection?) and also the likely 6 fatalities of US troops that occurred while searching for Bergdahl.

Smerconish interviewed the mom of one of the dead solders (the lieutenant) and she said she wanted to know why Barry’s military had lied to her...and this is on CNN!

Smerconish also had the NY Times reporter on who wrote the front page story today that tried to cast doubt on whether the 6 soldiers died directly searching for Bergdahl or whether their deaths were “incidental” or “normal” at the time. Smerconish reamed the reporter with withering sarcastic questions and backed him into a corner finally getting the puke to agree that in view of the mother of the dead officer who just said that her son told her that the only reason that he was outside the wire before he was killed was because he was looking for Bergdahl, the reporter would continue to investigate and the NY Times would update the story.

Looks like whatever close marital or blood relative link between CNN and Barry in the White House isn’t working for Barry anymore!

I believe that the Congress is significantly more ready for Sheriff Arpaio’a “universe shattering” post-Bergdahl Scandal! Barry’s national security team, led by Susan Rice is now a...problem (fill in the constitutional wording)...that even Democrat have their hair on fire.

Have you seen the most recent video of Hagel, BTW? He looks like a very sick man, physically...

Shouldn’t they be writing an editorial about the Obama administration’s efforts to demonize those who served WITH Mr. Bergdahl?

That twitter twit was a writer for Time Magazine (he authored a piece on the VA scandal June 3rd, 2014). He was formerly(?) vice-chair of the Dmeocrats’ VoteVets.org. He was in the “war room” for VA and HUD publicists.

The Obama administration’s fingerprints are on those attacks. Why does that Rat who has since deleted those tweets still on the government payroll?

Bergdahl isn't really the issue it is that Obama has released 5 notorious Taliban leaders, one of whom is accused of crimes against humanity, who will now be free plot and commit mass murder. Obama’s release of these murderers also is seen as a great victory for Islamic fascism and will embolden a new generation of terrorists to strike at us. Imagine in WW-II if we had captured Himmler, Eichman and three top SS leaders and FDR traded them for a single soldier in a German POW camp.

"a classified military report shows that Bergdahl had walked away from assigned areas at least twice before and had returned"

I would like to hear more about this, I know that had I left my post once in the USMC I would have been in serious trouble (brig time, DHD). There is a big difference in being late for morning formation (slap on the hand) and leaving a post. Big big difference. I find it hard to believe the USA would keep in it's ranks a solider that has a history of leaving his post.

Thank you for this excellent & informative update, Seize. There wasn’t a dull word in it. It was extremely encouraging overall.

One thing I noticed: Obama’s RealClearPolitics disapproval rating spiked to -9.9 today. When you consider that several of the factored polls are rolling averages, this means that the number can only go higher for at least the immediate future. Obama is likely to set a disapproval record before the numbers level off.

At some point even the most diehard rats abandon ship. Obama is flailing & floundering so badly that most of the left is already focused on ‘16. Sure they’d like to prop Obama up. But when he becomes too toxic—as it appears he’s well on his way to being already—leftists will cut their losses & start spending most of their time hyping Hillary or Warren or whoever they think can prevail in ‘16.

Even liberals can recognize a lost cause. The gum chomping Choomer has a raging case of Reverse-Midas-touch. He’s getting to be too much of a liability even for his most devout knee-padders. The only thing missing is a total, tsunamiesque wipe-out in Nov. If that happens, Obama’s name will be mud on the left, just as it’s been mud for many years already on the right.

Let's see now...a number of guys who served with him say he's a deserter.More than a few even say he's a traitor. But the NY Times pretty much says he's deserving of the Medal of Honor.

Who to believe????

His fellow soldiers ALL say he willingly deserted

His fellow soldiers are all psychopaths.

A White Hut spokesman told us so.

So, McCain saying “an exchange” is the same as five Taliban Generals. Quite a leap there.

Exchange a Private for a Private, not five Generals for a Private.

Sounds fugazi.

Was McCain literally asked if he'd "support the exchange of five hard-core Taliban leaders for the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl?" That's hard to believe.

See McCain's press release: THE NEW YORK TIMES PURPOSELY EDITS MCCAIN STATEMENT TO MISREPRESENT HIS POSITION ON BERGDAHL PRISONER EXCHANGE.

You and I have been on the same page anticipating that eventually the Dems will demand that Barry step down (even they couldn’t be THAT stupid or cravenly unpatriotic could they?) and we have been WRONG for soooo long...but now we may finally be vindicated...well saved by
Barry and Valery Jarrett and Susan Rice’s “universe shattering” stupidity!

When Susan Rice gushed yesterday that “The entire national security team backed this swap” I could just see DiFi saying to herself “That does it! Time for the intervention to remove Barry’s team from the White House or Hillary will never be POTUS!”

You said it well. Supporting Obama’s boneheaded moves is perfectly acceptable to Democrats as a rule. However, when Obama’s disastrous ‘leadership’ starts imperiling not only the midterms but also ‘16, things change. I think to some degree most of the Dem pols & strategists have been head-in-the-sand about the losses Obama has already wreaked on his party. I.e.: if they can blame anything else for their electoral mishaps, they’ve been content to leave Obama, for the most part, out of it. But they’re fast approaching the point when they no longer have that luxury. A shellacking in Nov would cripple them, & anything Obama does to jeopardize the WH in ‘16 will energize them (against him) at last.

Which is a longish way of saying I agree. If Obama thinks he’s had a bad yr so far, he hasn’t seen anything yet. It’s all downhill from here.
