The Obama administration passed up multiple opportunities to rescue Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl because the president was dead-set on finding a reason to begin emptying Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, according to a Pentagon official.
'JSOC went to the White House with several specific rescue-op scenarios,' the official with knowledge of interagency negotiations underway since at least November 2013 told MailOnline, referring to the Joint Special Operations Command. 'But no one ever got traction.'
'What we learned along the way was that the president wanted a diplomatic scenario that would establish a precedent for repatriating detainees from Gitmo,' he said.
The official said a State Department liaison described the lay of the land to him in February, shortly after the Taliban sent the U.S. government a month-old video of Bergdahl in January, looking sickly and haggard, in an effort to create a sense of urgency about his health and effect a quick prisoner trade.
'He basically told me that no matter what JSOC put on the table, it was never going to fly because the president isn't going to leave office with Gitmo intact, and this was the best opportunity to see that through.'

I would believe this. Besides, he couldn’t get the blind Sheik released so he made up for it with the 5 other terrrorists.

Yesterday, I read about the procedure for releasing Gitmo prisoners. Some committee has been set up, and it makes recommendations. Up until a recent change in the law (spearheaded by Schumer), the committee needed congressional approval (now its the 30 day notification).
Anyway, the state dept and white hut kept bringing these five in front of the committee. And the pentagon kept have to prove that they were dangerous...over and over again. It reminded me of a crime victim being dragged to testify at the parole board, because the crook took every chance he had to apply for release. The story really emphasized how time consuming it was to document how potentially dangerous these men are, and the pentagon felt the white hut was trying to wear them down.
So, its clear that Barry really, really, really wanted to find an excuse to release these five.
Why? No answer to that question doesn’t include a president who is a traitor.
He has already committed high crimes and misdemeanors. The house should impeach and let the new senate remove or not. Let them bear the brunt of their inaction.
Oh so Bergdahl looked sick. And why not, it worked with the Lockerbie bomber.
