The NRAs strong statement reprimanding a few people for carrying long guns into restaurants was bound to get media attention. Bloombergs Moms Demand Action and much of the media quickly jumped in and described various restaurants as asking customers to leave their guns at home. But their assertions couldnt be more misleading.
The headline at USA Today saying No Guns Inside or at MSNBC and Huffington Post saying No-Gun Policies are simply wrong.
A big deal has been made of Starbucks, Jack in the Box, Chipotle, Wendy's, Applebee's, Chilis and Sonics supposed bans on guns, with Bloombergs groups declaring victory.
Yet, Starbucks respectfully requesting customers no longer bring in openly carried guns is not a ban on guns.
Jack in the Boxs statement we would prefer that guests not bring their guns inside our restaurant refers to open carry. Neither restaurant forbids customers from carrying concealed handguns and comments like request or prefer are a long ways from bans.
Calls to all these restaurants revealed that none of them have changed their policy about posting any signs banning either generally banning guns or permitted concealed handguns.
With 11 million concealed handgun permits in the United States, it is understandable why none of these businesses want to risk losing that many customers.
From a general crime-deterrence perspective point of view, there . . .

I’m sure a mass-casualty SSRI attack is looking pretty good to the folks at 1600 Pennsylvania right about now.
Not too much said about the gangland shootings compared to peaceful stuff like open carry in restaurants. The media are really pathetic, and they’ll pay for their actions one day.
If I was in a rough area, the first place I’d go to eat would be the restaurant where people were allowed to carry.
Sorry, I agree with the NRA, the obvious carrying of rifles does nothing except cause antipathy to the open carry laws. It is simply a silly way to advance the cause. Please folks, get a informed life (maybe from the internet in this case) and stop this stupid cause. It is causing more harm than good at this point.
This is not the same as concealed carry which I would support.
“This is not the same as concealed carry which I would support.”
And your concern is.....
Stupidity. I don't like stupidity.
Are you after advancement of the cause or are you for causing unrest? Openly carrying rifles does neither but does cause unrest among those unaccustomed, thus the obvious negative responses. Concealed carry would do just fine for protection without causing problems.
Why is that questionable?
These two dipsticks are hurting the cause. That isn’t open carry, that is brandishing. The anti-gun crowd is going to have a field day when one of these morons walks into a Whataburger and gets double tapped by a CHL holder.
Okay they are charitable morons. God bless them.
They were doing nothing wrong, even the cops ignored them and they were right next to the Marshal’s office too

So you’re saying that CHL holders may draw and start shooting just from these two walking into the place? Any instance you’ve found of something like that happening? Such far fetched “might” and “could” are the bread of butter of the anit-2A people. Please don’t contribute to that with speculative arguments.
I agree with the article saying that criminals avoid the open carry people, and wait for a better victim. To me, that’s the essence of open carry -— personal protection.
If the rest of society benefits from any crime reduction, or protection fo 2A, great... but it’s primarily about warding off the bad guys in the first place, which you just can’t do with concealed carry.
Not a matter of right or wrong but how they are affecting others with their demonstration - and that is what it is. Not a matter of legal or illegal.
Do the folks around them feel safer or worried? Why would they feel that way?
