Former President George W. Bush spent his Memorial Day weekend laid up in Chicago undergoing knee replacement surgery, according to reports.
Bush, 67, underwent the outpatient procedure at Chicagos Rush University Medical Center on Saturday, NBC Chicago reported.
Doctors allowed Bush to stay at a nearby hotel after the operation, before he flew home to Dallas Monday afternoon.
Bush was accompanied during the medical trip by wife Laura and a Secret Service detail, NBC Chicago reported.
The former President has kept a relatively low profile in recent months, even declining to attend the Sept. 11 Memorial & Museum dedication ceremony in New York earlier this month because it may have been too emotional, sources told the Daily News.

Hey, at least this was probably done in a considerate fashion. If it was Barack Obama he’d tie the area up for hours Just Because It’s Him.

Figured something of the sort... best artificial knee that can be had for love or money.

As long as it isn't the taxpayers paying for his surgery, President Bush can get his medical care wherever he wants.
I live in Pennsylvania. We have fine doctors and hospitals here, but when my former boss needed heart surgery, he went to Cleveland Clinic. People should get the best medical care they can wherever they want. Thanks to Obamacare, someday soon we won't have those choices.

Texas doesn’t have knee surgeons ?

I guess you didn’t get my point. So long as there are still some choices in medical care, we should take advantage of them before those choices are gone.

".. best artificial knee that can be had for love or money." No doubt, but the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) human knee is still superior to any replacement part, so this is pretty sad, considering W's obsession with physical fitness. No more marathons for you, George.

Got your point ... but I live in SW Pa and if I needed routine surgery, I wouldn't go to Chicago ... that's MY point.
And if I lived in Texas I damned sure wouldn't go to Chicago for routine surgery

This is the second thread I've seen in as many days and I'm amazed how the comments refer to some element of bozocare or like yours, a direction of thought regarding the implementation of bozocare .... but few are commenting on an ex-president from Texas being in Chicago for relatively routine and some might consider minor surgery.
I said it yesterday and my opinion hasn't changed ... the story as published is BS and there's more to this than what is being related

What do you think isn’t being told? Do you think it’s something more serious?

I think W has been given a good talkin' to. Are we on a precipice or not ? How desperate is the one teetering .... or the one pushing ? Does America hang in the balance? All the cliche's in the world have been tested here in FR and most of them, if not correct are at least worthy of thought So what IS W doing in Chicago ? We've bandied the word 'mob' all over the place referring to zero's Chicago, but we don't want to attach mob tactics to the mob ? The problem with all my paranoia is I will never know, but that won't stop me from trying to logically speculate.
If I needed specialized medical treatment, and Pittsburgh couldn't offer it ... WVU is just down the road.
You'll have a hard time convincing me W went to Chi for routine surgery.

Knarf, if your legacy were Barack Hussein Obama and the impending Death of the Republic, wouldn't you tend to keep a low profile?
GW is a good man who managed crises well, but who mainly somehow screwed the pooch. With the House, Senate, and WH is GOP hands for a long while, nothing really good managed to get done on his inarticulate watch. IMNVHO, GW's biggest bonehead play: No oil policy. No energy policy. Big government Republicans? No thanks.
