...it doesn’t take much to be “far right wing” in 2014.
Hell Marx would probably be a moderate by today’s standards.
“Based on exit polls. National Front is called far-right in the media, at the same time they note that it is essentially socialist in policy.”
Saw a great chart that compared ideology not to a straight, linear Left-to-Right line, but as a circle. If you go faaaaaarrrrr enough to the right then you wind up back into Socialism. Nazi style.
Same thing if you travel faaaar to the left.
Of course, this is France, so “Socialist” is kind of a given.
“Far right” means what? Lower taxes and defend your border?
When did the French EVER want that?
The socialist-right?
I don’t see them holding power over a period of time and i don’t think electing Nazi’s is a good idea but every now and again the establishment needs to be called into account for their actions. Overall its a good thing and it will pass but the conversation in France will shift away from unfettered immigration towards a more sane policy. Let the Germans invite in the entire middle east if they wish. The rest of Europe is shifting away from that.
“Far right” is anything that gets in the way of Soros’s grand strategies. :)
Something needed to be done about all the Islamo fascists being let in to take over their country. As it is there are too many muslim nutjobs living there now. They have their work cut out for them. They need to ban muslim teaching to youth to stop it.
GOODDDDDDDDD! Take that you French socialists!
Nigel Farage of UKIP has kept his distance from the FN but the people of France vote for them because of the misery brought upon them by business as usual politicians like people in England vote for UKIP.
Looks like the French got tired of Francois Hollande’s schemes pretty quickly. Wish American has as much sense with nobama.
France is fightimg between national socialists and international socialists.
Libertarian nationalism is dead in continental europe.
Sure. National socialism. Familiar?
Don’t know what to think. UKIP, who I like, won’t have anything to do with them.
Here in the US they are considered a terrorist. Does that mean France will be deemed a terrorist country? /s
Hmmmm, essentially socialist and nationalistic. What could possibly go wrong????
Across Europe, the anti-EU conservatives appear to have won big.
FAR RIGHT NATIONAL FRONT WINS BIG IN FRANCE IN EU ELECTIONS ~ SOCIALISTS WIPED OUT.
FN 25%
UMP 20.3
PS 14%
Please keep in mind that the FN, the far right of the Le Pen family in France has nothing in common with the right and conservatism in America.
This is, IMO, a protest vote against the failure of the ruling Socialist Party concerning insecurity, immigration and incompetence, a failure to re-institute secure borders, high taxation, and lowered standard of living. France has huge problems, but the Statist, totalitarian, program of the FN does not offer a real solution. It doesnt deal with the underlying structural weakness of the Vème République, and adds to the mix, anti-Americanism, anti-capitalist, xenophobia and anti semitism that brought France to the brink of extinction in WWII.
A major message of this election is that the Left in France is on life support, and dying. How can François Hollande, whose Socialist Party only got 14% of the vote, continue in office until the next election in 2017?
I think they are pro handouts needy French people. Obviously that is difficult to determine.
Whereas Paul Ryan and Jack Kemp type candidates are for crony business, massive immigration and handouts for illegal aliens.
To the news media, anything nationalist = “far right.” Especially in Europe. The FN is a nationalist party but they are nowhere close to what we would consider in America as “far right” or even moderately conservative. It’s always good to see Socialists get a knee in the metaphorical goolies, but the FN is no Tea Party by a long shot.
Also remember that these are for the EU Parliament. For whatever reason these elections seem to skew a lot further toward the nationalist parties than the respective countries’ actual governmental elections...witness the fact, for example, that the BNP could get a couple seats in the EU Parliament a few years ago but couldn’t translate that into any significant wins in the UK at any level.
