fta:"While visiting in Maryland, I was blessed with another cherished chat with my dad, who just celebrated his 86th birthday. His mind is as sharp as ever. Praise God! Dad is chaplain emeritus for the Baltimore City Fire Department. He only speaks at special events.

Dad said he was called on the carpet by a department official after a recent event. One highly offended individual at the event complained that dad ended his prayer with “in Jesus's name.”

Dad told the official that he could no more deny Jesus than he could deny that he is black. Note: Dad did not apologize, beg for forgiveness, or vow never to do it again. The official let it go."

We give them the power. We can take it away.

The Jewish boat story.

The Boat

A group of people were travelling in a boat. One of them took a drill and began to drill a hole beneath himself.

His companions said to him: “Why are you doing this?” Replied the man: “What concern is it of yours? Am I not drilling under my own place?”

Said they to him: “But you will flood the boat for us all!” (Quoted in Midrash Rabbah, Vayikra 4:6).
(from the teaches of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai; AKA the Rashbi)

It’s all a matter of taking away the drill from the idiot drilling inside the boat.

Back to Rush's question. Who gives the left so much power?

The left has power because a majority of Americans are in tacit agreement with their ethics or their goals. Change the hearts and minds of the majority, and the left will lose power.

“we” do.

Lousy answer. There is no such person as “we”. It’s an amorphous dodge, since without a mass communication campaign there is no “we”.

So, who gives such power? A substantially uni-focused mass communication apparatus, i.e., the major media.

The bible says that it is God Himself who appoints the princes and kings of the earth into their positions of power.

It is not because we fail to vote republican...

It’s because we fail to stand up for God and His truth that we have the left in power.

“I was the only black person. There was not the slightest vibe of racial tension in the air. I believe that such is the state of race relations among a majority of Americans”

well, yes and no.

i’m a die hard new England patriot fan, and was elated at their three super bowl victories. I loved troy brown, Rodney Harrison, Richard Seymour et al. the fact that they were black was not even an issue.
after the election of Obama and the absolute hysterical focus on race, and things like the “beer summit” with skip bates and the white cop, well i’m not a racist, but a persons race or religion now pops out at me.

No, actually, we do. When we do not call into these radical stations and give them an earful. When we don’t stand up against their false remarks and slanders. When we brush it off, saying there they go again, but don’t take the message to all we know and right the rhetoric. In spite of their lower viewership, they still are able to stay on the air some way and spew their hatred and slanders and misinformation. While I don’t advocate watching them so we can call in and complain, we COULD respond to those clips we see on FOX, RightScoop.com, etc. and do more boycotting of sponsors. We have become complacent. Oh yes, we do complain, but to one another, not to the people who need to hear. So, collectively, “we” are to blame.

The thing ‘WE’ could do, in response, however, is to never, ever apologize and to never, ever say PC things. Takes courage, you will be mocked.

No. . . You're wrong. Most of them are NOT in tacit agreement with their ethics and especially not with their goals. They just accept tiny portions of them when they hear about them in small pieces. . . when they waken from their lethargy. If they wake up and pay attention, they are almost universally opposed. We need to get them to pay attention.

Both of you want to do really good things that will make a difference.

But, I don’t see it approaching “we”. There is no mass movement doing it. There’s no way for it to be effectively sold to a mass audience.

So, it is at the level of the individual. It is “you” doing it, with a prayer on your lips that others will join in.

Shorter answer - Way too many uneducated (regardless of college) idiots that have no thinking ability beyond their professors. These folks are a detriment to society.

Are you ready for this future?

Much of the left's power comes from the mainstream media, which is mostly liberal and totally in sync with the Democratic Party's socialist/progressive agenda.

That's a lot of power. If it's not all of their power, what's the rest of it?

I like this one more:

(Mark 4:35-41)
On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.”
And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him.

A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”

He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!”

Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm.
He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?”

And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

No, the left is in power because of something I've termed Appeal to Self-Authority which is ingrained in the people from a young age via the public-school system.

Appeal to Self-Authority:

  1. People in authority would not be there if they were not good.
  2. Therefore, their position of authority is proof of their goodness.
  3. Because of this goodness, the power an authority uses is good.
  4. Therefore, to disagree with [or disobey] an authority is proof of your evilness.
  5. Implicit: I am an authority; to contradict me is evil, no matter the situation.

Take a real look at how the authorities behave when you ask them to explain themselves, especially if it is something that is plainly outside what is lawful. (For example, in my home-state of New Mexico the State Constitution prohibits laws that would abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and self-defense, yet there is a state statute prohibiting firearms on University property — when asked about this authorities hem and haw or try to point you in another direction.)

The left has power because a majority of Americans are in tacit agreement with their ethics or their goals.

And that's because we are presently in the era of the '60s and '70s "activists" grown into power and taking their last shot at getting their myriad "agendas" -- radical environmentalism, socialized medicine, etc. -- ingrained into the fabric of the nation before they're gone.

The good news is that they are receding into retirement or the hereafter at a pretty good clip these days. MUCH more pragmatic generations will take their place.
