Science Standards Divide a State Built on Coal and Oil
New York Times ^ | MOTOKO RICH

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Sitting in the headquarters of the Wyoming Liberty Group, Susan Gore, founder of the conservative think tank, said new national science standards for schools were a form of “coercion,” adding, “I don’t think government should have anything to do with education.”

Ms. Gore, a daughter of the founder of the company that makes Gore-Tex waterproof fabric, was speaking here weeks after the Republican-controlled Legislature made Wyoming, where coal and oil are king, the first state to reject the standards, which include lessons on human impact on global warming. The pushback came despite a unanimous vote by a group of Wyoming science educators urging acceptance. Wyoming was the first state to say no, but likely not the last. A House committee in Oklahoma last week voted to reject the standards, also in part because of concerns about how climate change would be taught.

Amid a growing cascade of studies documenting melting ice caps and rising temperatures, schools are increasingly teaching students about climate change and the new guidelines, known as the Next Generation Science Standards, have been adopted so far by 11 states and the District of Columbia. They assert that human activity has affected the climate.

Amid a growing cascade of studies documenting melting ice caps and rising temperatures

So far, 2014 has been the coldest year in recorded US history. The previous records of 1899 and 1912 fell just a short while ago.

Also, the current ice packs at both the North and the South poles are larger than any time since satellite records have been kept.

Science is based on continuous testing of all observations, speculations and data in an objective manner to find the Truth.

Politics is based on the tribal emotion that my tribe’s ideas are better than your tribe’s ideas with no objective testing by either tribe to determine the Truth.

Among the many political speculations that have yet to have demonstrated a known cause and effect are Global Warming, Global Cooling, Climate Change for the worse, or Climate Change for the better, with “better” defined politically, of course.

1.) IF we assume that CO2 is the root problem to Global Warming and Climate Change, THEN consider what would happen if atmospheric CO2 were, somehow, to be eliminated:

The process of Photosynthesis, defined chemically as follows:

6CO2 + 6H2O + (n)photons = C6H12O6 + 6CO2

would cease to generate carbohydrates, (C6H12O6), for most plants and the animals that eat the plants and eat the animals that eat the plants.

2.) To the best of my research, there has never been a cause and effect experiment that establishes that a change* in the concentration of CO2 has had a measurable effect on the temperature of the air.
*Note: at atmospheric concentrations of CO2 approximating maximum to minimum living conditions for most plants.

3.) All known published speculations on the effect of CO2 on temperature are based on the false assumption, as proven by # 2 above, that there is a measurable effect of the change in atmospheric concentration of CO2 on the temperature of the atmosphere.

After only 3 weeks at his new job, fellow Swedish Scientists harassed Dr. Bengtsson into resigning from a prestigious think-tank on climate change.

It is Scientists such as Dr. Lennart Bengtsson who are willing to oppose the peer pressure of emotion-based politics, and stand, resolute, for what can be proven by fact-based Science.

Such men inspire other Scientists to continue the never ending search for Truth, regardless of the severity of peer-pressure inquisition at the time.

As we look to our own US Society, now in the watershed battle between the adherents of the original, empirical-based, US Constitution, and the proponents of emotion-based Socialism, let us pause now and then to refresh our courage by remembering the bravery of men such as true Scientist Dr. Lennart Bengtsson.

“A House committee in Oklahoma last week voted to reject the standards...”

I hope they’re prepared to override a veto.

THEN consider what would happen if atmospheric CO2 were, somehow, to be eliminated:

Excellent breakdown. I have not found, however, where their agenda was to eliminate CO2 (it may very well be, but I have not seen it). What I have found is the insistence on reduction of man's excessive addition to what naturally occurs. The problem I see with this silly argument is manifold:

1) no Empirical evidence has been presented as to the "right" level of atmospheric CO2.
2) man is a natural part of the environment and thus provides CO2 as a product of his existence (I know the left wishes that to be negated).
3) CO2 (as demonstrated) is critical to life on the plant, so reduction can have catastrophic ramifications.
4) the increase of CO2 would benefit most plant life and thus cause herbivors and omnivors to thrive as a natural by-product.
5) Nature abhors a vaccuum, so should excessive atmospheric CO2 cause an increase in global temperatures, #4 would absorb solar radiation and offset that effect.
6) No Empirical evidence has been presented to show just what is the "best" temperature for the Earth.

Uh, - - - are you forgetting that the Federal EPA in their exhaustive tribal research, and infinite wisdom has declared the environmentally friendly, essential to most life forms on Earth, yes, indeed, none other than CO2 to be, {shudder}, TOXIC!????

OH! The humanity - - - - !

Well, I wouldn't wanna breathe ONLY CO2 but I kinda have some use for it...

I think the EPA is toxic. What an idiotic notion to even suggest that CO2 is toxic. It’s my understanding as well that in certaint periods of extreme cooling or warming,as compared to now, that CO2 has been found to be higher than at other times. That should pretty much put the kibosh to thinking of CO2 as causing global warming. Further,it is also understood that the increase in CO2 has usually FOLLOWED the warming. This stuff is available for study if anyone at the EPA was interested. It is my profound wish that they be done away with as an unnecessary expense to the taxpayers....among other things.

The gov’t doesn’t — Common Core is about political indoctrination.

FYI, make an X/Y plot of degrees F and ppm CO2 data date pairs.

Note that in the mid 1940’s there is a divergence that their computer “Algore-rhymns” cannot account for.

BTW, the oldest polar bear scull was found in Coastal Norway, age dated at 130,000 YBP, which is pre-Sangamon.
