SALT LAKE CITY (AP) In the wake of a botched lethal injection in Oklahoma last month, a Utah lawmaker says he believes a firing squad is a more humane form of execution. And he plans to bring back that option for criminals sentenced to death in his state.
Rep. Paul Ray, a Republican from the northern Utah city of Clearfield, plans to introduce his proposal during Utah's next legislative session in January. Lawmakers in Wyoming and Missouri floated similar ideas this year, but both efforts stalled. Ray, however, may succeed. Utah already has a tradition of execution by firing squad, with five police officers using .30-caliber Winchester rifles to execute Ronnie Lee Gardner in 2010, the last execution by rifle to be held in the state.
Ray argues the controversial method may seem more palatable now, especially as states struggle to maneuver lawsuits and drug shortages that have complicated lethal injections.
"It sounds like the Wild West, but it's probably the most humane way to kill somebody," Ray said.

They should use laughing gas.
.
Dentists use it.
Start with a low dose an keep increasing it until it is 100%.
The “patient” would just go to sleep and not wake up again.
With raffle tickets sold to decide who gets to be on the squad. Probably instantly balance the budget of most states.
That’ll definitely work.
The only reason injection is used is to protect the delicate sensibilities of the spectators and the public. There is no way to know if the prisoner feels any pain or not. It all looks so clean and sterile.
Be realistic. If you’re executing someone, you want them to be dead in a short time. That’s the goal.
Yes, the firing squad.
Why do we want it to be painless? I think each family should be allowed in a room with the murderer or rapist of their child/mother for one hour. Whatever part of it is left alive should then be hung or shot.
Yes, he did. He was the HANGING JUDGE.
Execution does prevent MORE murders from said murderer.
I believe that we would lower ourselves to the level of the monster who lived to inflict pain on others.
I always think of it as shooting a rabid dog: put the poor thing out of its misery.
Let our Creator do the punishing.
He will, too, won't He? He always does.
Probably much more humane, if they aim for the brain.
Why they don’t just rig the triggers to a timer aimed for the base of the skull has always baffled me. The whole process involves waaaaayyyy too much human error.
Historically, a very large percentage of people executed by firing squad survive the initial volley. Probably because most people, especially inexperienced soldiers, find it difficult to shoot straight while looking their human target in the eye.
Traditionally, this was handled by having the officer in charge finish the wounded person off by a bullet into the brain at point blank range.
Leading to the fairly obvious question, “Why not just do the bullet in the brain, and skip the often ineffective (or, more accurately, inconclusive) volley?”
"International law",don't you know.
When it comes to my daughter, If I catch them in the act I will be lower than a monster. Like you said...God will judge, I will just get him to the judgement as painfully as I can.
I like straight nitrogen--either by mask or high volume infusion into a chamber. Out before they know it--people have just dropped walking into that sort of environment.
Also, it’s plentiful and can safely be vented directly back into the atmosphere.
