The daughter of President Barack Obama's former pastor was convicted on Friday of laundering thousands of dollars from a state grant for a Chicago-area job-training program, federal prosecutors said.
A federal jury took less than two hours to find Jeri Wright, 48, the daughter of Jeremiah Wright, guilty on all counts for her part in a fraud scheme led by a former suburban police chief and the chief's husband, according to the U.S. Attorney's office for the Central District of Illinois in Springfield.
The $1.25 million state grant was for a not-for-profit work and education program called We Are Our Brother's Keeper, owned by Regina Evans, former police chief of Country Club Hills, and her husband, Ronald Evans Jr.
Wright, a close friend of the couple, took as much as $11,000 from checks worth more than $30,000 that were supposed to be for work related to the grant, prosecutors said. About $20,000 was deposited back into accounts controlled by Regina and Ronald Evans. The couple has pleaded guilty to the fraud scheme.
Jeri Wright also was convicted of making false statements to law enforcement officers and giving false testimony to a grand jury. The maximum penalty for money laundering is up to 20 years in prison, and five years in prison on the other counts. Sentencing is scheduled for July 7.

A mere $1.25 million grant. Imagine the infinite graft opportunities in th average green power scheme and in every MahdiCare IT program. Between the two the direst “losses” must b in the low $ billions. Of those billions at least half must have disappeared, through graft and fraud, into the pockets of many connected DemonCraps. Just imagine what an impartial forensic audit of Solindrya, the rollout of the MahdiCare mess, and the multiple failures of state MahdiCare exchanges wold reveal in the way of graft and fraud related losses.
Maybe they will now investigate Community Organizer Obama to find out what he did with the grant money he scammed back in Chicago.
Well, I see she was raised in the Wright way.

This is one of the reasons that these type of job and job training programs are a bad idea, aside from the fact that they don’t really work that well and are wrong on principle.
A few years ago there was a scandal with something similar in Seattle Schools. They were supposed to be partnering with businesses so high schoolers could learn about work and business, but it turned out that the businesses were dummies—store fronts, P.O. Boxes, etc. and money was going into the pocket of a con artist named Silas Potter. The superintendent was not directly to blame but it probably wouldn’t have gotten so bad(at least a six digit figure I think) if she had been paying better attention. Some said that they had to be careful of scrutinizing it too much or there would be accusations of racism.
I am always extremely leery of this kind of stuff because its a perfect target for corruption. People don’t learn about work and business from stuff like this anyway, they learn from getting actual jobs on their own.
I have to correct myself. On revisiting the Potter story, I noticed that it wasn’t job training, but rather a program to help small and minority-owned contractors. The thinking was that they should get jobs to do with Seattle Schools and evidently weren’t deemed capable of doing this on their own. Anyway, same deal, phony businesses that existed on paper only, and didnt do a lick of work. According to the Seattle Times, Potter and his accomplices stole $280 grand, but $1.5 million was “questionable”. The superintendent did lose her job. People won’t say that it’s directly because of this, but it’s generally thought to be. I considered it to be one of the more under reported stories in Seattle over the past few years.
I wonder how much money her dad, The Reverend Wright, has scammed and schemed out of church folk.
