Immigration Overhaul Backed by Growing Number of Tea Partyers (Grover Norquist again)
Roll Call's 218 ^ | May 14, 2014 | Emma Dumain

More Republicans are pushing for an immigration overhaul.

House Republican leaders are mum on a timetable for advancing immigration overhaul legislation and have so far been noncommittal on moving on the issue before the end of the 113th Congress.

But a group of mayors and business leaders from across the political spectrum is determined to prove that momentum is growing for a rewrite of the nation’s immigration laws — even among conservatives.

The coalition, Partnership for a New American Economy, on Wednesday held the first in a series of monthly conference calls moderated by Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist and featuring public figures in the conservative movement who support immigration overhaul efforts.

Norquist and his guests — Tea Party Express Co-Founder and Strategist Sal Russo, American Online Founder Steve Case and American Conservative Union Chairman Al Cardenas — strained to get the point across that the issue is not dead on Capitol Hill, and that House GOP leaders continue to plod along on a path to bring legislation to the floor.

They said that President Barack Obama’s threat to supersede Congress and use his “pen and phone” on immigration if the House doesn’t soon act is not helpful. But even unilateral action from the White House, they said, would not derail the push for action in the House, as many Republicans, including Speaker John A. Boehner, have suggested.

Norquist and the others said they are in touch with House Republicans working on a legislative strategy for immigration — piecemeal, comprehensive or otherwise. And it’s Republicans, not Democrats, who are actually working to cut a deal, according to the group.

“I don’t think Democrats are the ones that are moving,” Russo said. “I think Republicans are far more equipped to take action.”

The Wednesday conference call was also timed with two separate announcements designed to make neutralize the issue for congressional Republicans who fear they could lose re-election in November if they took a pro-immigration overhaul stance.

Earlier Wednesday morning, Russo — at the Partnership for a New American Economy’s urging — published an op-ed in Roll Call stating his support for fixing the immigration system that would provide a legal status pathway for undocumented residents of the United States.

The Partnership for a New American Economy, the Tea Party Express and Americans for Tax Reform also released the findings of a new poll Wednesday, which was commissioned jointly from the firm McLaughlin & Associates. Results show that the vast majority of 400 Republican primary voters surveyed who “identify strongly or somewhat with the Tea Party movement” support immigration overhaul efforts.

Of those polled, 76 percent said they would support a plan that fell in line with the broad standards for immigration overhaul that Boehner and other members of House GOP leadership released earlier this year.

The survey, conducted May 9-12, also found that 69 percent of respondents “would vote for a candidate who supports broad reform over one who supports border security only.”

Does the will of the people count for anything in America today? Close the goddamned Southern border and start putting people in prison for thwarting our law!

We need immigration reform alright. We need to curtail immigration from countries sending the dregs of the world here to become societal parasites. We should only take educated and qualified people that want to integrate, work hard, and contribute to making a better, freer, America.

I am in favor of 2 year work permits to all foreign workers.
That system is working great in Singapore. No work-permit if a citizen is available to do the job. No citizenship path, no work permit if you have criminal record, no work permit if you have no job or job offer.

Exactly how Dubai does it.

Dubai is filled with expat workers who are there on temporary visas depending on job status

No job, no visa, and you are kicked out of the country

“Overhaul” of immigration law is not amnesty, nor should it be.

America existed for generations as the place where those who lived in oppression, and wished to escape it, could adopt the ideals and the basic principles that built the United States, and perhaps in that lottery, be among the winners that actually were admitted to this country.

The best overhaul would be to set up shop all over the world, with the express purpose of recruiting men and women of good will and sincere desire to bring their talents and expertise to America, where they could practice those abilities to their own personal profit, free from the restrictions and limitations in their own land of nativity.

But first, that America of yesteryear has to be re-established and nourished back to its former glory.

Horse feathers!!!

If the goal of the GOP leadership is to get 8 million republicans to sit home in 2016 just pass amnesty. That’ll do er.

Folks need to be VERY clear on this-—”Tax Reform” is only the smallest part of Grover Norquist’s agenda. And that original “tax reform” agenda is, in recent years, only a cover for what his real agenda is.

Grover Norquist is essentially a puppet of the Islamists (whose religion he shares) and, to a lesser extent, the GOPe RINO wing of the Republican Party.

The only goddamned immigration problem we have is that no one in the GOP in DC has the nerve to enforce current laws designed to make the crooks self deport.

The pro illegal alien crowd is nothing more than a bunch of communist fronts allied with big business designed to screw the middle class from both sides.

Hell no, time to fight the communists and the blue bloods in the streets.

Degenerate little twerp Marco Rubio (who never held a real job in his life) and his minions in the RNC want to legalize 11 million criminal aliens and import another 20 million on top of that, further depressing the stagnant wages of the middle class that are being further eroded by higher taxes and the unprecedented grand theft of disposable income if you actually use your medical insurance to go to the Hospital.

All in the name of his ethnicity and his allegiance to the blue bloods and country clubbers who he sees as his ticket to more power.

Sociopaths like Rubio and that degenerate SCUMBAG REINCE PRIEBUS (who should have RESIGNED after losing to the communists) make me want to vomit.

Seek mental help RNC , or join the communist party USA, they have the same position on illegal immigration as you do.REPEAL Ted Kennedys Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

We need PATRIOTS in DC willing to fight the unholy alliance of communists and corporatism trying to boost immigration to further their interests.

Jeff Sessions makes common sense statements about immigration, and isn’t a liar like Rubio and Boehner and all of the rest of the country clubbers trying to sell us down the river

We don’t need new immigrants or to give amnesty in any form to the illegal ones already here.

There are millions of Americans out of work, anyone pushing immigration reform is an enemy of the common American citizen
