The Harvard Extension School Cultural Studies Club said it will relocate its reenactment of a Satanic black mass ritual, scheduled for Monday night, to an off-campus site, citing in an email that misinterpretations about the nature of the event were harming perceptions about Harvard and adversely impacting the student community.
The club emphasized that Harvard had not asked them to move the event from its previous location, the Cambridge Queens Head Pub in the basement of Memorial Hall, and commended the University for affirming its members rights to free speech and assembly.
Harvard always demonstrated that it understood its responsibility to defend protected student speech. That was always made clear to us, the club wrote in a second email.

I’ll be darned——nice to hear.
.
I think most FReepers already know where this is taking place. JMO
I’m surprised that Harvard didn’t ask them to move it to Yale.

They were going to sacrifice a virgin but couldn’t find one at Harvard.
Every once in awhile, the interwebs proves itself socially valuable.
We won one. This I guess this happens to liberals too just like conservatives with Ms. Rice at Rutgers. Both groups can’t win em all.
Isn’t it amazing what is considered offensive to others, and what isn’t these days.
Doesn’t surprise me a bit that this wasn’t deemed offensive by Harvard.
I wonder how much funding that club gets?
At this point, I want it to continue on campus. If they go off campus, they can whine about how Christian intolerance won the day. If it continues on campus, a lot of people will see this for what it is — a PR stunt to attack Christians. A lot of people also will see a lot of committed people of faith worshiping as a response (notice I did not say “protest”) to the black mass.
And hopefully a lot of people will think hard about faith and the meaning of Christianity. When you put aside all the superficial talk about Christianity, you see what a beautiful, positive religion it is, and, whether you are “religious” or not, what a great set of guiding principals it can be.
haha!
Mephistopheles is not your name... but i know what you're up to just the same...
They must have found a way to link it to the Young Republicans.
I’m still laughing!!!
i am shocked Harvard is not offended by the name Black Mass... can't they see it's racial???
