Medical marijuana high in the polls for Florida voters (88% support)

A poll released Monday shows that 88 percent of Florida voters support allowing adults to legally use marijuana for medical purposes, bolstering the arguments of advocates who have placed a constitutional amendment on the November ballot seeking legalization.

The poll, conducted by Quinnipiac University, indicates widespread support across political and demographic lines — Republicans and Democrats, men and women, young and old — for legal medical marijuana if it is prescribed by physicians. The constitutional amendment needs approval from 60 percent of voters to pass.

It has nothing to do with health and everything to do with a get out the pot head vote. Guess who that benefits?

Once the citizenry realized that the feds have no business telling us what we can consume the cat is out of the bag. The movement to re-legalization pot is just one indicator of the resistance to the Nanny-state.

Then again those who wish to impose themselves on others can be found in lots of places - especially where liberty and freedom are espoused.

Florida: the first state in the nation to allow legal marijuana and NOT require a helmet while riding a motorcycle..

Doesn't get much better than that..

Not for a couple of years now. In 2011 a new law went into effect cracking down. To the point to the point that those with legitimate need for pain medication have to jump thru unnecessary hoops.

Recently had a perfectly valid prescription for pain medication related to a broken foot. Couldn’t get it filled for 4 days because the law limits the amount of meds you can get in a 30 day period.

I don't smoke pot or ride without a helmet. (My head will always lose in contact with concrete)

But there should not be a law against either. I would also suggest health insurance policies do not cover any injuries if you ride a bike without a helmet. Similar to exclusions for skydiving.

If we are going to say it’s OK to get high if you have a doctor’s note, and allow whole industries to spring up to facilitate the fraud, I’d prefer outright legalization.

In 2011 a new law

Your data is more recent than mine
Florida was well know to be a magnet for
out-of-staters coming in by the van-load
and getting multiple Schedule II “fixes”
to be taken bake to their home state and sold,
some causing local deaths here (East Tenn.)

I know an MD who was heavily recruited to
staff those clinics, at $5,000 a day!

Charlie “pole smoking” Crist the ultimate opportunist candidate who is a trial lawyer in the state’s embarrasing ambulance chasing firm of Morgan.

There is already prescription marijuana available in FL. It is a pill, brand name Marinol, that contains concentrated THC active ingredient in cannabis. But that shouldn’t stop the weed marketers and thugs who support crist. Oh, and he’s for the enviiiiiironment dontcha know? What an absolute ahol.

As we know, the "medical marijuana" movement is a transparent fraud perpetrated by those who stand to profit from legal recreational use. I have had patients who were taking marinol, it works for pain, it stimulates appetite, it even gets you a high. Just not high enough for those dependent on stronger doses.

I would too. But this is a great first step. Full legalization will follow pretty quickly now.

This is like halfway through the collapse of prohibition in the US right now.

“The Quinnipiac poll found that legal use of medical marijuana was supported by 93 percent of Democrats, 89 percent of independents and 80 percent of Republicans. It was supported by 92 percent of voters ages 18 to 29 and 84 percent of voters ages 65 and older.”

Dems only support it marginally more than GOP. This is what we call “bipartisan support”

Sure, synthetic THC, but all the other active compounds in cannabis are missing.

Chemical compounds in cannabis, known as cannabinoids, are responsible for its numerous therapeutic benefits. Scientists have identified 66 naturally occurring cannabinoids.

The active ingredient in Marinol, synthetic delta-9-tetrahyrdocannabinol (THC), is an analogue of one such compound, THC. However, several other cannabinoids available in cannabis -- in addition to naturally occurring terpenoids (oils) and flavonoids (phenols) -- have also been clinically demonstrated to possess therapeutic utility. Many patients favor natural cannabis to Marinol because it includes these other therapeutically active cannabinoids.

For example, cannabidol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that has been clinically demonstrated to have analgesic, antispasmodic, anxiolytic, antipsychotic, antinausea, and anti-rheumatoid arthritic properties. ...
