Nashville, TN This past Saturday Representative Joe Carr overwhelmingly won the Southern Middle Tennessee Republican Leadership Group straw poll in Manchester, receiving 52 votes to just 9 votes for Senator Alexander. The Southern Middle Tennessee Republican Leadership Group held the straw poll following their Red State Debate event for all Republican candidates running in Southern Middle Tennessee.
Tennesseans are looking for a Senator that will stand up to DC special interests and fight for Conservative values. These results show that our message is resonating with grassroots Republican voters who will no longer tolerate Senator Alexanders special interest focused agenda, stated Representative Joe Carr.

Go Carr! I want to see Lamar loser
I hope this starts some momentum. Lamar Alexander is political mediocrity personified. If I lived in Tennessee, I’d be handing out signs for Carr in my spare time.
“Southern Middle Tennessee Republican Leadership Group”
“Southern Middle Tennessee” means Rutherford County and areas to the south, right? That should be Carr’s strongest region (he represents portions of Rutherford County in the state house).
I’m not very optimistic about this race, particularly with the anti-Lamar! vote being split among several candidates (with Carr being by far the most viable). Why, oh why, does TN not have a run-off? (I know, it’s the one former Confederate state never to have run-offs, but we should have run-offs in primaries in every freaking state.) Lamar! deserves to be sent packing.
Joe Carr BUMP.
Alexander may not have the free ride this year he thinks he is entitled to.
52 votes to 9. 61 people ain’t much of a sample size.
A positive sign don’t get me wrong, but not much of an indicator.
Where is the redstate blog and tea party express and the other usual suspects? They’ve been awfully quiet about this race.
Carr has my vote.
You betcha!
> won the Southern Middle Tennessee Republican Leadership Group straw poll in Manchester
Yeah, that’s convincing.
I don’t think Lamar realizes just how
many of us are tired of him and his
New World Order Agenda !
A lot of us that have never been active
before in politics , AIM to put him out !
Thanks for posting. GRRRRRREAT! BUMP!
Lamar may be a mushy moderate, but replacing him with a Democrat would make things worse, especially if it came down to whether Harry Reid continued to be majority leader.
I have the strangest feeling they'd be extremely focused on this race and on the warpath against Lamar Alexander if he had a 95% conservative rating & was one of the Ted Cruz's most reliable supporters, and Joe Carr was a private sector businessman & former RAT party donor who now claims to be a "principled fearless conservative"
In the above scenario, we'd hear howls of "It's time for career politician Lamar to go!!"
The TPX and RedState crowd seem to get their priorities backwards.
If Joe Carr wins the nomination, he would win the general easily. There’s no need to settle for Lamar(!).
Just about any candidate with an "R" next to their name has a "reasonably strong chance" of winning in November. This is Tennessee we're talking about, it's become increasingly one-party Republican in statewide races over the past decade.
In theory a RAT could win, but even the media's favorite charmatic, slick-talking, telegenic, moderate-southern-version-Obama, Harold Ford Jr., couldn't win an open senate seat against mediocre Republican Bob Corker in 2006, an otherwise great year for RATs.
1. Hired illegal nannies;
2. Is a racist (Supports voter IDs);
3. Has child porn on his computer; or, much more seriously,
4. Believes in a small government (Within the framework of the former Constitution).
The rat candidates are penniless nobodies, they didn’t bother to even find a real candidate, unlike the rats in MS and SC who found candidates that could theoretically win in the right circumstances.
And just as importantly, Carr is a solid candidate who would beat a real rat candidate. So it’s not an issue.
It’s a shame all those other Republicans are on the ballot, 6 of them, none with any money. Yet if each gets even half of a % point, that could be the difference.
There’s an insane crapload of nobody Independents on the General election ballot too. It must be too easy to get on the ballot in TN.
So if it is Lamar! vs. some no-name Democrat, it would be safe to vote for Emerson in November to register opposition to Lamar! without possibly helping Harry Reid keep his job.
Indeed, Lamar will have a 100% chance of winning the general election if he is nominated, so you can cast a protest vote without worry, if you wish.
We must continue to hold up hope for Carr, Lamar is such a turd.
There hasn’t been a poll recently but the last one (from February) isn’t good, Lamar 62% Carr 17%. Someone call Palin, she’s mostly been endorsing conservative women this year but here’s a dude who could use her help.
