While the dynamic in the White House press briefing room has changed drastically from the days when minority reporters were barred, the level of diversity among reporters who cover the presidency still doesnt reflect the makeup of the country as a whole, a panel of current and former Washington journalists said Monday.
Print and television news outlets can do more to attract journalists of color to the field of political reporting and ensure that a range of perspectives is represented in the White House press corps.
The importance of diversity as a means of fostering more comprehensive political reporting, rather than simply for its own sake, was a major theme of the panels discussion.

So much hand wringing, so little time...
“..a panel of current and former Washington journalists said Monday.”
:::::::::
LOL !!
Maybe that is because the White House occupant himself doesn't reflect America either.
Correction please when reference is made to this group it is; The White House Press Corpse
Thank You
did they discuss the lack of conservatives?
I'm getting real tired of this race crap.
How about attracting journalists with character and curiosity, and maybe a streak of honesty - regardless of their color?
Our Diversity Is Our Strength ranks right up there with War Is Peace for pure Orwellian cant, but what is meant here is that as well as white butt-kissing liberal sycophants there should be black butt-kissing liberal sycophants, asian butt-kissing liberal sycophants, hispanic butt-kissing liberal sycophants, and native American butt-kissing liberal sycophants.
No real reporters... Only Bolshevik sycophants...All married to each other and the Democrat party.
This is truly comical stuff. I don’t know how they report this drivel with a straight face.
So it then follows that if each of the 7 billion individuals on Earth each spoke and understood only their own unique language, a language that not a single other person could speak or understand, we would certainly have achieved maximum diversity in that regard.
And if "our diversity is our strength" it would stand to reason that this outcome of maximum possible diversity would make our collective society the strongest it could possibly be, correct? But of course it would instead destroy our ability to accomplish anything as no one would be able to communicate.
Therefore, it is clear that it is our SIMILARITIES, not our "diversity" that makes us strong. It is what we hold in common. Our unity, not diversity.
They definitely don’t reflect the majority.
Yep - in the narrow little mind of a liberal, that's diversity...
Whyvwould there be. Obama over all demand everyone hold their nose and swallow whatever is placed in front of them with no questions asked.
