The vast arid wasteland known as liberal radio is becoming even more barren. Loose-cannon lefty Randi Rhodes is pulling the plug on her show.

News of Rhodes' impending departure came in a terse statement from Premiere Networks, which broadcasts her show through 35 affiliates -- "[We] can confirm that Randi Rhodes has decided to end her national radio program. We've had a successful partnership with Randi for several years and we wish her all the best for the future. Premiere Networks will conclude syndication and production of Randi Rhodes on May 16, 2014." (Audio clips after the jump)

Rhodes spent considerable time on her show this week saying goodbye to listeners and outlining the rationale for her decision. She also couldn't resist taking swipes at Al Franken and Rachel Maddow, her former colleagues at now-defunct Air America Radio, especially Maddow (audio) --

Those are some pretty tepid 'slams'.

Klimmers taken a shitty job at low pay to boost their careers?

Color me shocked!

She sounds bitter. Bitter because others made it and she never did. If she is such an “advocate” as she claims, and not in it for “self-aggrandizement”, she should be happy that Al Franken moved on to the Senate and Maddow moved on to TV, to a supposedly wider audience; to reach more people in Maddow’s case and to advocate for the people through the legislative process. What a phony.

They still have the national television networks and nearly every print newspaper. Let’s not act like this is a death knell. Her audience was what 10,000 listeners?

hmmmm I guess for the trivia department:

Rhodes voted for Reagan and served 3 years in the Air Force, honorably discharge.

Still a nutjob.

Whatever happened to that freak Janeane Garofalo?
Haven’t heard a peep from that weird one lately.
She hit rock bottom or something?

“35+ AFFILIATES” is networkspeak for “We have a piece of paper with a list of 35 call letters in shadow or unrated markets. They don’t report to us, and we don’t call them. Yes, we understand they are carrying the show...”

Somehow, I knew you’d be the author of this thread before I even clicked on it. Ol’ Randi has created enough mayhem on her own without her coworkers help. :)

That's about 5% of the number of stations carying Rush Limbaugh's program.

You're right!

Read this too...

In 1979, ex-Black Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne was in Los Angeles, attempting to form a new band. An acquaintance of Osbourne's, future Slaughter bassist Dana Strum, contacted Rhoads to see if he was interested. Rhoads, disillusioned with Quiet Riot's inability to land an American recording deal, discussed the possibility of joining an already established band with his mother Delores. When she asked him if he would accept "an offer like this one", the guitarist replied "Of course!" Rhoads got the call for the audition just before his final show with Quiet Riot in September 1979. The day before Osbourne was scheduled to return to England, Rhoads walked into the vocalist's Los Angeles hotel room with his Gibson Les Paul guitar and a practice amp and started warming up. Osbourne immediately gave him the job. Osbourne was very drunk, and passed out during the audition.

She is a most unpleasant woman. Ugly, liberal, unhinged. He claim to fame was when she blamed a right wing mugger when she fell down piss drunk after downing a bunch of Ketel One vodka.

hehe

Even Steve Deace has more affiliates than that, and I’ll bet not one-tenth of the amount of money promoting her has been spent promoting Deace.
