If drugs were decriminalized, about 98% of the militarized police force would no longer be needed.

Why am I not surprised?
Stevens has probably been stoned for years. A truly bad appointment. What has made him wake up and start making all the stupid statements recently?

In view of some of his opinions and dissents, he probably has been smoking it for quite some time.

What the heck is all the pot hype about. This is for people who want to get high? I understand the medical part, but for healthy people to smoke weed to “feel better” amazes me. Heroin next? And where are the anti smoking Nazis when there is a REAL issue. This isn’t theoretical (and bogus) second hand smoke...this is encouraging people to smoke when it has taken us generations to stop. (Stop the world, I want to get off this ride).

“Public opinion has changed on this issue”.
Consider this, the senior citizens of today are the hippies of the 1960s.
They haven’t changed their opinions.

Stevens also says that there isn't much distinction between marijuana and alcoholic beverages.John Paul Stevens should not open his mouth if he does not know what it is he is saying. There are huge and significant differences between alcoholic beverages and marijuana, so many that they cannot be compared.
There are many varieties of alcoholic beverages with a long history of use, thousands of years. Permanent and short term effects are well known, as well as the dangers of excessive consumption.
What are known about the carcinogens, permanent brain alteration, psychotic drug effects, memory loss, and other deleterious effects of marijuana use, are being suppressed or ignored so as not to stop the juggernaut of stupidly legalizing its use.
Already in Colorado there are increases in auto accidents, deaths, hospitalizations, bad effects on children, and maybe an overall dumbing down of the population. We are not living in rationale times.

Hmm.. Maybe I skipped a line or two, but I'm still failing to find where marijuana is even mentioned in the first place?
