The propaganda bullhorn that is the state-sponsored RT program has been deployed to promote actually, RT network has been deployed to promote President Putins fantasy about what is playing out on the ground, Kerry said. Furthermore, he said RT spends almost all its time propagandizing and distorting what is happening, or not happening, in Ukraine.
Dismissing the entire eastern Ukrainian, anti-Maidan movement as being sponsored and controlled by Moscow, Kerry did not address allegations of American involvement in Ukraine. Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that America was running the show in Ukraine and referenced the visits to Kiev of CIA head John Brennan and Vice-President Joe Biden.
Lavrov decried John Kerrys latest comments about RT as uncivilized and prosecutorial.
[The West] was convinced for some time that it had a full monopoly on mass media, said Lavrov in a statement. Russia Today has won a large audience in the US and Western Europe, not to mention in Latin America and the Arab world."
RT's Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan responded to Kerry, saying the channel was preparing a letter seeking an apology from the State Department and asking for evidence to back up their assertions.
We are planning to write an official request to the State Department for concrete examples of when RT has distorted facts, said Simonyan. Its unfortunate that the head of the State Department knows so little about whats going on in Ukraine at the moment."
It surprises me that at this difficult and embarrassing time for the US, Secretary of State John Kerry has nothing else to worry about apart from our television channel, Simonyan tweeted.
Back in 2011, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared the US was losing a media war with up-and-coming, alternative outlets like Al Jazeera and RT.

So, what’s the difference between them and MSDNC and CNN?
World War means having to support your country, even if its leadership really stinks.
Oh the irony, it burnsssssssssssssssssss!
If people remember, the O admin got rid of the law that the US would not engage in propaganda.
It is on display as we weep.
He's not Commander in Chief
Another dereliction of duty on Obama's resume!!
What would be nice to hear is the Kiev government constantly emphasizing that things stay as they are until there's a vote. I can't imagine that this "removing terrorists" rhetoric is inspiring most Ukranian voters to like or trust them. What it does is create fear, which is the way of oppressive governments.
Our leadership doesn’t even support this country.
I don’t ever recall during the darkest days of the Cold War, any member of the US government attacking Radio Moscow.
Suppose that because of Obama’s low poll numbers, America would be led would risk toe to toe nuclear combat with the Russkis - - all in the attempt to give Obama, captain of Kenya, a chance to show his quality. Wag the dog, squared.
Remember how Clinton lamented that he would never be thought of as a great wartime President, like his hero, FDR?
The fact is, that’s what every Democratic leader ultimately wants.
Exactly. They are so used to favorable press coverage here that they are shocked that they can’t control it elsewhere. Having said that, RT nor Jazeera are n at my house.
Maybe, perchance, the USG would attack RT because the truth tables have turned in the last 8 years?
Always look at any news source with a jaundiced eye....but actually there are things RT and Al-Jazeera do report that our media won’t touch.
I support my country. That’s why Biden and Kerry representing us is such a worry.
Yep, I recall Clinton’s visit to the D-Day memorials in France, and the toy flag on the beach incident.
The problem is they are there because of our electorate.
The toy flag photo-op on Normandy Beach was June 6, 1994. NATO bombing of Serbia commenced on March 24, 1999.
