RAND PAUL TO CALIFORNIA REPUBLICANS: EVOLVE, ADAPT, OR DIE
Breitbart ^ | April 6, 2014 | GOP-e Sen. Rand Paul

Posted on 04/06/2014 5:43:23 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Evolve, adapt or die. That is the fate of our current Republican party. We must evolve as a party and find a way to attract millennials to the conservative movement or we will never succeed in realizing our ideals of individual freedom and freedom from government interference.

Initially, I received criticism from political pundits for speaking to non-traditional audiences. I was told it was a waste of time to reach out to these audiences, specifically students from both Howard University and University of California, Berkeley.

My response is this: I have never been one to watch the world go by without participating. I wake up each day hoping to make a difference.

You might be a Republican, Democrat or Independent. I speak before these audiences, not to preach or prescribe some special formula.

My intention is not to tell you what to be. You are more important than any political party or partisan pleadings. My intention is to motivate all Americans and defend their rights.

My hope is that in discussing these topics, more Americans will be open to the conservative message. A message that favors choice in education, a less aggressive foreign policy, more compassion regarding non-violent crime and encourages opportunity in employment.

As a conservative [*cough, *cough] politician, it is clear to me that we must start discussing these topics more with audiences that might not normally hear our message--specifically young adults and students.

Preaching to the choir is not working for the conservative movement. We are growing stale and moss-covered. We must evolve, adapt or die.

The key to attracting younger voters is federalism. Whether you be libertarian or conservative, federalism works. The common enemy is centralization via the corrupt and rapacious federal government. No one likes totalitarianism. We can have socially liberal states and traditional family oriented states as long as we don’t have an overbearing central government. We need to abolish the EPA, education, DEA, ATF, IRS energy and limit the Feds to a strict interpretation of the constitution.
The states can manage their affairs.

Good point. But who did the R party run in those elections? Dull, duller, and dullest? All I’m saying is that the R candidates don’t articulate well ( not since Reagan). And in California you have a 98 percent left- wing media. I can’t explain that! But it hurts and it seems nobody in the R party is doing anything about getting its message out either with articulate candidates or media.
Mark Levin’s famous “ used orange juice can” at least told you what you’d get if you bought it.

“I will not evolve, adapt or pander.”

Politics is politics. That’s what politicians do.

I think getting folks interested in defending their rights is a fundamental requirement to achieve anything good and conservative through the political process.

Saying “I’ll fight ‘em to the death” accomplishes less than nothing.

Again - supporting awareness of rights under the Constitution amongst a new generation is not a bad idea even if you don’t like the guy saying it.

It’s a missed opportunity for this forum to not support that - as narrowly presented by a politician even if you don’t trust his actions down the line.

Open borders??????

Rand Paul on immigration

“However, millions of illegal immigrants are crossing our border without our knowledge and causing a clear threat to our national security. I want to work in the Senate to secure our border immediately. In addition, I support the creation of a border fence and increased border patrol capabilities”

That one really depends on your armament, logistics, and relative numbers.

This is why gun control and the borders are primary political issues which override economics. The stance on these two issues reveals the true hard leftists.

You agree with that, do you not?

That a free America can not compromise here.

It may be what politicians do, but I’m not a politician. Free Republic stands for God, life, family, constitution, country, liberty. Bitterly clinging to God and gun. All others can kiss my grits.

” abortionism, homosexualism, atheism, isolationism, socialism; defeatism, open borders, free condoms, free drugs, etc”

Rand Paul is 100% pro life. No exceptions for rape & incest.

Rand Paul Supports banning homosexuals in the military. (Aug 2010)

Rand Paul is a practicing Presbyterian.

Rand Paul is not an isolationist. He’s a pragmatist.

Rand Paul is a capitalist. He is the antithesis of a socialist.

Rand Paul is an optimist “... Our message has to be a happy message, one of optimism, one of growth,”

Rand Paul is for securing our borders “ I support the creation of a border fence and increased border patrol capabilities.”

I don’t know what his position is on free condoms. Frankly with all our problems, condoms, free or otherwise, are not on my radar screen.

Misrepresenting Rand Paul’s positions on the issues is unfair.

Jim, you’re going to have to slap around a few of the libertopians to get some sense knocked into them... They are STILL trying to convince us that RP is a ‘Conservative”.. no matter what proof (with links) are put in front of them... They just can’t/don’t see it. :p

“but I’m not a politician.”

That’s why you acknowledge when a politician says something, anything, that directly aligns with the stated mission of your site.

Whatever your site is or isn’t it’s also a political website, is it not?

It was NOT a disagreement. I can respectfully disagree, but, you outright, deliberately and maliciously lied on Ted Cruz. I can tolerate people who disagree with me, but, liars.... I have no use for liars.

Longevity on FR does not give you the right to lie on great Conservatives like Ted Cruz. Just in case someone saw your post, who did not know better, I wanted to set the record straight and defend Ted Cruz’s honor.

“That one really depends on your armament, logistics, and relative numbers.”

If one wants to fight a politician when they say something you agree with and also when they say something you disagree with, there is no end to the battles you can fight with politicians.

When someone you may not like says they want people to “fight for their constitutional rights”, they should be applauded, not fought against - and certainly any talk of “armament, logistics, and relative numbers” is not an appropriate response to that.

“That a free America can not compromise here.”

Where is “here”?

Do you not understand that after we fought and won our independence, that it was the politics of reasonable (and even some unreasonable) men that brought us to form a successful nation?

The political “fight” is what was bequeathed to us by our founding fathers so that we could have a mechanism to avoid this sort of “armed fight” over political things. That’s not the fight we should be spoiling for right now.

It is a Conservative website.
Not a “kumbaya hug the illegal aliens and sing the praises of sodomy” website.
Learn the difference.
It might save your life.
