Calvin Turnquest was born in Nassau, Bahamas, into a family with a long tradition of public service and deep involvement with the church. Calvin was raised with the values of hard work, service to others, and faith in God.
Calvin applied for an F-1 visa in 1989 to attend the University of Miami, where he earned a Bachelors degree in Chemistry and a minor in Biology. He then worked to earn his Green Card. Calvin took the oath of U.S. Citizenship in September, 1999 and calls it his proudest day.
While attending the University of Miami, he met Sheryl Thompson, and married her six years later. Sheryl received her M.D. from the University of Miami and completed her residency training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Calvin and Sheryl have been married 17 years.
Calvin and Sheryl bought a home in the Village of Tequesta in November 2004, and opened a small business. The challenges of entrepreneurship, and a growing concern for the economic direction of the country, led Calvin to become active in local issues. In January, 2005 Calvin was elected to the Tequesta Oaks Home Owners Association, where he later served as Treasurer, Vice-president, Director and Secretary.
In March 2007, Calvin won a seat on the Village of Tequestas Council. He was subsequently re-elected for two more terms and was then voted in as Vice-Mayor.
As the nations economy teetered on the edge in 2009, Calvin became active in Republican and conservative groups, and became an outspoken leader for fiscal reform, personal responsibility, and protecting Americas values at home and interests abroad. He is active in the Palm Beach Tea Party, and the Chapter leader for the Boca Raton Tea Party. He has sought to expand his message of conservative empowerment to groups outside the traditional GOP coalition, often speaking with, and working, in the Caribbean and black community across party lines to attract new voters.
Seems like the real deal, I got a fund raising appeal from him recently.
Anyone know anything about him?
Looking for Florida info

The First Of Our Freedoms, the Right to Life.
Agreed!
His opponent is Patrick Murphy; hope he tosses him out!
Best of Luck and Prayers!
Who?
Beats me.
I hope he’ll toss Murphy out. Isn’t West running for his old seat?
No, West isn’t running again.
Here’s another Black GOP candidate running for Congress (in Allen West’s old seat).
He needs money.
Former State Rep. Carl Domino is the only Republican with close to enough.
BTW did you know that Patrick Murphy’s middle name is “Erin”. AFAIK that is exclusively a girl’s name.
Yeah, I know. At least it ain’t Mary.
I wonder why he isn’t.
Erin in Irish is also a boy’s name. It could be that his mom honored a relative with the name. Our middle son’s middle name is Ashley, named for my wife’s uncle. (wife is a Brit, we met at UCONN and Ashley is still a boy’s name there.)
I think he announced early on he wasn’t going to run. It’s possible he may have bigger plans for 2016, so running for an office he may not be spending all his energies to serve in might be why. I’m hoping he runs for Senator against Rubio, who went native 5 minutes after arriving in DC, betraying the very reason he was elected.
I believe that “Erin “ means “Ireland” in Irish Gaelic (”Erin Go Bragh” means “Ireland Forever”).
I wasn’t aware “Erin” was ever used for boys. “Behind The Name” http://www.behindthename.com/name/erin lists it as female only. But other sources (wikipedia) do list it as unisex, must be pretty rare for boys. It’s # 39 in popularity in Ireland, for girls.
I know “Ashley” was/still is used as a boys name too. Mostly in the UK and American south. A similar name is “Lindsay”. There are a few others I think, like “Leslie”. I know when I’m looking up a southern candidate with one of those names it’s usually a guy. Actually, I think with those names they began as surnames, then started to be used as male given names and THEN female names.
“Madison” is now one of the most popular girls names, I can’t stand it. All because of that stupid move where Darryl Hannah is a mermaid who names herself “Madison Avenue”. It means “son of Maud”, the “son” part is right there!

I had been hoping that Adam Hasner would run in this district. His name had been mentioned, but I’ve read nothing recently.
I wanted Hasner to run there as well, since he could raise the money to be competitive with Murphy and likely would beat him in November. The choices in the district are underwhelming, a mix of interesting candidates with no money and has-beens with some money. Murphy is the only Democrat in FL holding a seat carried by Romney, and we have a chance to wipe out all Democrats in Romney districts nationwide this November (we’re already assured of picking up UT-04 and NC-07 due to retirements from Matheson and McIntyre). I’m going to be really pissed if we blow this race.
Murphy is an odd one. He supposedly put out feelers last year about switching parties (!) but was rebuffed.
Lesley is the given name of Bob Hope.
