Why a Republican Wave in 2014 is Looking More Likely Now
National Journal ^ | 3/12/14 | Josh Kraushaar

David Jolly wasn't expected to win Tuesday's special election. But he capitalized on an increasingly favorable political environment for the GOP....

Tuesday night's special election in Florida should be a serious scare for Democrats who worry that Obamacare will be a major burden for their party in 2014. Despite recruiting favored candidate Alex Sink, outspending Republicans, and utilizing turnout tools to help motivate reliable voters, Democrats still lost to Republican lobbyist David Jolly—and it wasn't particularly close.

It's more a realization that Obamacare is an impending disaster for the US economy. Why President Obama didn't model health care reform on the highly successful German model is still beyond me....

If nothing else, I hope this election cycle bankrupts the coffers of the socialist democrats running for office. The overwhelming majority of folks polled on TV last night said that Obamacare was THE deciding factor in their vote.

Sink, the carpetbagging failure of a Democratic operative, dropped like a lead weight during the entire campaign. The Democrats are more proud than they are smart.

The BIG trouble is, if the RINOs get in, they will bray about a ‘mandate’ to continue the socialist policies. Having republicans in isn’t enough. They need to be conservative!

Jolly had a spoiler Libertarian take 5%. That masked a bigger victory. He’ll be a squish in congress, but this tells you something.

If a flawed candidate like Jolly who excited exactly zero people can win in a district Obama won twice, that Sink had won in a previous gubernatorial race, that was trending Democrat, outspent 3 to 1, with a libertarian in the race...

They’re in for a real bruising this year. After this race, I’m putting the senate from tossup to leans Republican. This was awful for the dems, and don’t let them spin it. Total disaster.

This may encourage more of the old timer Dems who have been in Congress for decades to retire.

Or modified from the moderately successful Medicare Advantage program.

Bottom line is that Obamacare is less about healthcare and more about new taxation, new controls, new government intrusion, and pay-offs to cronies.

If the GOP can run semi-competent candidates in lean blue districts, they could pick up over 10 seats.

This is terrific news for Dan Bongino in Maryland.

Never underestimate the ability of the GOP to cast victory into the jaws of defeat.

Midterm elections are completely different than presidential elections. In midterm elections turnout tends to be much lower. The electorate is considerably older, whiter, and more dedicated voters-—therefore more Republican-—than in presidential election years.

Bingo! We've got a winner.

There's not a dime's worth of difference in practice between the Rats and the Rinos. If the GOP, captures the senate and keeps the house, Obamacare's not going anywhere. If the GOP then captures the White House in 2016, same thing.

So, all this excitement about the 2014 and 2016 elections is total BS. Haven't we learned anything?

The GOP has actually controlled the White House 60% of the time over the last 60 years, but government has only gotten bigger and bigger. In fact, some of the most egregious legislation has been signed into law by Republican Presidents.

We're doomed.

You are absolutely right! Midterm elections are a totally different animal. The deadbeats don’t realize its significance, and being dragged to the polls once every 4 years is already asking too much.

Unless a true conservative runs for president, we may be consigned (at best ) to gridlock with a dem president and an opposition Congress ( well House anyway ) for years to come.

Holy cow. I am Maryland resident, very involved with FR and conservative life and I had no idea that he is giving it another try. I was so thrilled to have a Republican as Mayor of Annapolis though. (I live in Arnold Maryland so didn’t get to vote for Pantiledes but still thrilled.

Impeachment Is In The Air
Impeachment is in the air everywhere I look around
Impeachment is in the air every sight and every sound
And I don’t know if I’m being foolish
I don’t know if I’m being wise
But it’s something that I must believe in
And it’s there when I look in your eyes.
Impeachment is in the air, in the whisper of the trees,
Impeachment is in the air in the thunder of the sea,
And I don’t know if I’m just dreaming,
I don’t know if I feel safe,
But it’s something that I must believe in
And it’s there when I call out your name.
Impeachment is in the air, Impeachment is in the air, oh, oh, oh, oh, uh,
Uh, uh, uh.
Impeachment is in the air, in the rising of the sun,
Impeachment is in the air, when the day is nearly done,
And I don’t know if you are illusion,
Don’t know if I see truth,
But you are something that I must believe in,
And you are there when I reach out for you.
Impeachment is in the air everywhere I look around
Impeachment is in the air every sight and every sound
And I don’t know if I’m being foolish
I don’t know if I’m being wise
But it’s something that I must believe in
And it’s there when I look in your eyes.
Impeachment is in the air, Impeachment is in the air, oh, oh, oh, oh, uh,
Uh, uh, uh.

Sung to the tune of “Love is in the Air”

Demographics are killing the GOP in presidential elections. They are the main factor the Dems have won the popular vote in the last five out of six presidential elections.

In the last presidential election, MR won close to 60% of the white vote. If demographics had not changed so drastically since the 1980s, this would have guaranteed MR a landslide victory similar to RR’s in 1984 and RN’s in 1972.

Bongino is running in Maryland’s 6th. Mike Lee attended an event with him recently, so I think he has a good shot if we can pull off a wave.

I agree.

Every year 2.5m (mostly white, majority R voting) folks die and are replaced by 2.68m (mostly minority, heavily D voting folks).

It’s an uphill climb.
