The Surgeon General is the head of the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps - one of the seven uniformed services in the United States. The Army has a head, the Coast Guard has a head, so should the USPHS. The sad thing is that this nominee would not even be eligible to be a Lieutenant Commander (O-4) for several more years based on his experience - but they will put three stars on his shoulder without a thought to what that should mean.

I’m happy for him. However, those of us who still consider our Constitution to be the supreme law of the land, will find this guy to be wholly unsuited to be our Surgeon General with his unconstitutional views.
You could also say that our president is “one seriously smart and talented guy.” Look how that’s turned out.
The other recurring poke in the eye is the continual appointments of people who are decidedly non-anglo and/or non-hetero. Apparently, those of us who have repeatedly lost out on the holy alter of affirmative action are no longer valuable.
