Washington state drivers are notorious for this, btw. I was headed home to Seattle from an event in eastern Montana on I-90 and me and another car were averaging about 90 mph. Every now and then we’d come across a car that refused to move out of the way and we had to pass on the right.

Out of six cars that did this, four had Washington plates.

GA FReeper ping.

I hope Deal signs this one, not that I expect much enforcement of it.

Slower traffic keep right!

So if you’re going the speed limit in the left lane, it’s a misdemeanor if you don’t get out of the way of someone breaking the law?

Bills like this can be real moneymakers because:

A. You get to ticket people for blocking speeders.
B. Speeders are free to, well, speed, increasing their opportunity to speed by a radar trap and get ticketed.

I’ve actually been blocked from speeding by a slowpoke only to follow him safely through a speed trap. Cops must hate that.

If the traffic in the left lane is moving faster than the traffic in the right lane, doesn't that constitute passing? And does it not make a difference how crowded the right lane is? And, as others have already noted, are speeding and speed limits a factor?

Absolutely stupid to add a law where none is needed.

This is another move to the police state that Freepers support.

When you, your wife / husband / sister / daughter / son / father gets arrested for this misdemeanor, the bitching will start. But all of you are for it beforehand because it inconveniences you. Make an inconvenience now a crime.

Watch the revenue generation stupidity expand.

Here in N.J a morning radio show guy on 101.5 named Jim Gearhart has been railing for years about slow left lane drivers. He calls them Left Lane Dick.

Totally agree with the law, if you're going to drive, drive like you're awake.
To me, if you can't follow such a simple rule, you're driving semiconscious to start with, not paying attention.
Don't know if the problem with folks who hog the passing lane is inconsideration, laziness or stupidity.
One thing for sure, their minds ain't on their driving.

we don’t need any more government laws. don’t we have enough?too many really. we need to cut back , repeal, privatize. private roads, private hospitals, privatize as much as you can and get governmentS at all levels out of our lives, out the economy , and out of private business’ way. that’s the solution no one is talking about. everyone it seems has their pet peeve they think government can make perfect for them , or some fake crisis like the global warming hoax. actually government and the media and the democrat party are the only real problems we have

Great! Now Georgia is a nanny state. What a magnificent waste of time for our legislators. God forbid they should be trying to reduce taxes. Nathan Deal should veto it.

Thank goodness! I’ve been keeping my eye on this one. Too many people in this city who want to troll along at 45 mph in the fast lane on the highway. And I know from personal experience that you WILL see the cops enforce this one.

It’s very simple: if you aren’t passing anyone, get in the right lane ASAP.

In Ohio, about 30% of fatal accidents include “speeding as a contributing factor.” The police are pretty good at measuring speed and is it to be attributed even if speeding is not an actual cause of the accident. If a car involved in the fatality was speeding, it is attributed.

Problem is, it is heavily documented that in Ohio about two-thirds of the cars are speeding.

Statistically, this means that one is about half as likely to be involved in a fatal accident if one is speeding.

This is fine as long as it’s balanced out by nailing the speeding scofflaws. Speed kills.

Give ‘em 5 over. More than that, hit the blues.

Making this a misdemeanor is overkill. Having a nontrivial criminal record just for not getting out of someone’s way is just wrong. Citation, yes; potential jail time, no.
