Lois Lerner did not flinch from using the IRS to persecute conservative citizens groups and corrupt the 2012 election. Once again she has taken the Fifth rather than come clean to Congress about what the IRS did to squelch the Tea Party and others, and who ordered it. President Obama brazenly lies to Bill O’Reilly’s face and says there’s not a smidgeon of scandal. This is an unrepentant crew.

Democrats have no qualms of conscience in sending the IRS after conservatives. Opposition to utopia is by definition illegitimate. Last week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid thundered that Americans are un-American for running ads protesting Obamacare. Governor Cuomo of New York told conservatives they should leave his state. Democrat Congressmen gave Obama a standing ovation when he asserted a regal privilege to suspend or change laws at will.

In March of 2010, the IRS began to flag Tea Party groups for special scrutiny. By July 2011, President Obama’s approval rating hit a low of 41%, the lowest of his presidency.
That month, Carter Hull, a 48 year veteran at the agency, was told by Lois Lerner’s office that he was no longer authorized to review 501(c)4 applications from conservative groups. They were all to be routed to Counsel Wilkin’s office. Yet Wilkins told Congress under oath that he knew nothing about it.
There are 100,000 employees at the IRS. Two are handpicked by Obama. One is William Wilkins, Chief Counsel of the IRS, the other is IRS Director Doug Shulman.

Former IRS official Lois Lerner and her colleagues mired in the debacle seemed concerned that the 2010 ruling striking caps on corporate political donations would influence the political activities of nonprofits, according to emails in a draft of a new Oversight and Government Reform Republican report, obtained by POLITICO.
Republicans take it one step further, suggesting the woman who would become the face of the scandal wanted to use the IRS to limit the influence of Republican donors.
Lerner’s lawyer William Taylor III of Zuckerman Spaeder called the accusation “pure fiction.”
Taylor said Lerner’s awareness of Citizens United “shouldn’t be a big surprise to anybody.”
“She was of course over the years involved in discussions of cases like Citizens United and what its implications were for the tax-exempt organizations… That’s what she was supposed to do,” he said.
Lerner, as expected, asserted her Fifth Amendment right to not incriminate herself at a hearing that exploded when Issa abruptly ended the hearing, and cut off the microphone of the panel’s top Democrat, Rep. Elijah Cummings.".....
Republicans on the Oversight Committee said that Lois Lerner’s decision to sit down with federal investigators made them wonder how seriously the Justice Department was taking the investigation into the IRS’s treatment of Tea Party groups.
“Think about it: Actually, the people who can put her in jail — she’ll talk to them,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told The Hill. “But she won’t talk to a bunch of Congress guys? She won’t give us the answers? You’ve got to be kidding me. Because she knows the [Justice] investigation’s a joke.”
The statements from Republicans came a day after Lerner again took the Fifth, after first invoking those rights against self-incrimination in May 2013."....

He signaled that he wanted Citizens United overturned. He signaled how he wanted that decision overturned when he hired Bob Bauer in the White House counsel’s office, after Bauer had spent the 2008 campaign calling for the regulation of political speech, especially conservative political speech.
Obama also signaled that cover-ups were his way when he put an executive privilege blanket over the Fast and Furious investigation.
Obama has tipped his hand on lawlessness repeatedly in the rollout of Obamacare, and he has signaled his intolerance for opposition throughout his political career.

"Sen. Ted Cruz on Wednesday pushed Attorney General Eric Holder for answers about the investigation into the IRS, with the Texas Republican saying he finds what has transpired in the last eight months of the probe “astonishing.”
Cruz called on Holder, who was appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, to address why so little had been done since the inspector general report concluded that the IRS had improperly targeted conservative groups, tea party groups, pro-Israel groups and pro-life groups
“In the 280 days since that inspector general report, nobody has been indicted,” Cruz said. “Not a single person. In the 280 days since that inspector general report, it’s been publicly reported that no indictments are planned. Today in this hearing, you were unwilling to answer a question whether even a single victim of targeting has been interviewed.”
And, Cruz said, “most astonishingly, it has now been publicly reported that the lead lawyer heading the investigation was, No. 1, appointed from the civil rights division, which has historically been the most politically charged division in the Dept. of Justice. And even more astonishingly, is a major Democratic donor and donor to President Obama.”
“Did you know the lawyer in charge of this investigation was a major Obama donor?” Cruz asked, referring to the involvement of Justice Department’s trial lawyer Barbara Kay Bosserman in the probe.
“The characterization of this lawyer as the lead lawyer on the case is not correct,” Holder said, adding that “I don’t know anything about the political activities of any of the people who are involved in this investigation.”................

WHO KNEW? The IRS (a tax-funded L/E agency) takes its marching orders from Democrats. Other govt agencies were sicced on conservatives---the FBI, ATF, the IRS, and OSHA were sicced on Catherine Englebrecht, who was harassed on numerous occasions, as she valiantly tried to improve the US voting system.

Senate Democrats facing tough elections this year want the IRS to play a more aggressive role in regulating outside groups expected to spend millions of dollars on their races. In the wake of the IRS targeting scandal, the Democrats are publicly prodding the agency instead of lobbying them directly.
Dems are also careful to say the IRS should treat conservative and liberal groups equally, but they’re concerned about an impending tidal wave of attack ads funded by GOP-allied organizations. Much of the funding for those groups is secret, in contrast to the donations lawmakers collect, which must be reported publicly.
One of the most powerful groups is Americans for Prosperity, funded by the billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch. It has already spent close to $30 million on ads attacking Democrats this election cycle.
“If they’re claiming the tax relief, the tax benefit to be a nonprofit for social relief or social justice, then that’s what they should be doing,” said Sen. Mark Begich (D), who faces a competitive race in Alaska. “If it’s to give them cover so they can do political activity, that’s abusing the tax code. And either side."
Asked if the IRS should play a more active role policing political advocacy by groups that claim to be focused on social welfare, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) responded, “Absolutely. Both on the left and the right,” she said. “As taxpayers, we should not be providing a write-off to groups to do political activity, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
Shaheen called the glut of political spending by self-described social welfare groups that qualify under section 501(c) (4) of the tax code “outrageous.” Shaheen is in a good position now but could find herself embroiled in a tight campaign if former Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass) challenges her.
Sen. Mark Pryor (Ark.), the most vulnerable Democratic incumbent, said the IRS has jurisdiction over 501(c)(4) groups, as well as charities, which fall under section 5/01(c)(3) of the tax code and sometimes engage in quasi-political activity.
“That whole 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4) [issue], those are IRS numbers. It is inherently an internal revenue matter,” he said. “There are two things you don’t want in political money, in the fundraising world and expenditure world. You don’t want secret money, and you don’t want unlimited money, and that’s what we have now.” --SNIP--
