“34 states are required to “call” the COS.”

Thank God

“The tricky part is getting purple states to complete the ratification to the magic 38 number.”

Thank God. :-)

The COS meets, and half those in attendance,...

Just curious, how do you think "those in attendance" will be chosen?

Are there other clauses of the constitution you oppose?

We don’t need to ammend the constitution. We need to abide by it. There is a reason for the 10th Ammendment.

Have you figured out yet by my remarks that I’m opposed to ammending the Constitution? :-)

I don’t call into question our Constitution at all. I call into question our citizens. The existing Constitution has already solved all of the issues you wish to solve through a convention. Our people didn’t like what the Constitution had to say so they abandoned it. We have the government we deserve. A constitutional convention will only make legal the illegal usurpations that our apathetic citizenry have already allowed.

Each state’s legislature chooses their delegates. There is precedent for this, and I’m not up on all the details... but each state winds up with a set of delegates (see Indiana’s legislation on the subject if interested) of their choosing and trust, with mechanisms for recall and reprimand to keep them in line. Whomever they send, as a group, they get a mere one vote at the COS.

And furthermore, any amendments MUST conform to the title of the COS "call". In the case of THIS COS, it is to "reign in the power of the federal govt".

I don't believe this is a fact. Do you have a source for this? I do not consider some expert's opinion a source. I can list several experts who guaranteed that Obamacare would be found unconstitutional. What you claim may have been the original intention but I am not even sure about that. Who would adjudicate how closely a proposed amendment "conformed to the title of COS call"? Chief Justice Roberts?

You folks need to understand that denial is a part of grief. You need to understand that we have lost. The Constitution is gone. There is no political solution to our problems.

Oh good. The four most powerful politicians in my red state are Boehner, Tiberi, Kasich and Portman. I can’t wait to see these idiots have a hand in reshaping the funding document of our republic.

The structure of any organization is important.

Take a bunch of friendly neighbors. At a cookout they all get along.

Take the same people and let them form a homeowners’ association. Majoritarian rule, i.e. democracy brings out the worst in man.

America made a huge mistake in the 17th Amendment, which overturned the structure of our Framers that divided power between the states and the government they created, which served to protect our freedoms.

It was all downhill since the 17th. We have two democratically derived houses of congress that are no better designed to secure freedom than a homeowner’s association is designed to consider the interests of the minority.

Now, this isn't to say that some level of virtue among us and the politicians we elect isn't necessary. It is.

But, the structure of the national government all but guarantees despotism. With two democratic houses, our Framers knew that tyranny was certain. It is a wonder that it took so long for an Obama to appear.

I support re-federalizing Washington DC. At a minimum the 17th must be repealed.

Until the states are returned to the senate, the steamroller of tyranny will continue. It may be too late, but we should try nonetheless.

States will not send a joe blow to an amendment convention. They will send delegates with commissions that define their authority.

If, as you say, we have the government we deserve, then no harm can come from an amendment convention.

"Constitutional convention at this point is a HUGE, HUGE mistake, in my opinion."

I agree. The majority of people who claim to be conservative don't even vote every four years. What makes anyone think folks like that will out maneuver the fascist scum who live and breath their politics 24/7/365? Until conservatives turn things around by working with what they already have a Constitutional convention would end up repealing the Bill of Rights and whatever else fascists want to do.

Repeal the 17th Amendment and you won't need this sort of Russian Roulette.

Those who are not state legislators have no say.

Please take the time to scan conventionofstates.com. You are very misinformed.

Do you honestly believe that the legislatures of 38 states would ratify any proposed amendment that would repeal any part of the Bill of Rights?

The states met last year in a planning meeting and they will meet again soon for round 2 in Indianapolis.

Keep in mind that there is no precedent, as this has never been done before.

We (the royal we) can expect opposition at every step along the way.

Decide if you want to be part of the solution or part of the opposition.

Actually the federal government does in fact abide by the Constitution, but it's the Living Constitution, the Constitution as a tree, the Constitution that is constantly changing and evolving even though its words never actually change.

Every time a federal judge tackles a constitutional issue, he holds a miniature constitutional convention of one in his chambers. It's this willingness to shred the language of the Constitution that requires the states to take the matter in hand.

Georgia, you've stated that the Left will want its issues addressed. Fine. But first they have to possess the votes within the Amendments Convention to get their amendment proposal out of convention, and then they have to get the legislatures of 38 states to ratify it. That's not going to happen.

When I edited the brief for Walker v. US in 1998 through 2000, Mr. Walker said something to me that made excellent political sense: "The Left may want a convention, but the Right owns the convention."

From what I understand the state legislators will select the delegates.

Guess what state legislators long to become? Federal legislators.

Guess who's ass you need to kiss to retain your employment as a state legislator or to one day become a federal legislator? The party leadership. The same party leadership, by the way who has been directing the current course of our nation and who has hand selected the likes of Boehner, Tiberi, Kasich and Portman.

What makes you think that a different class of politician would be selected to become delegates than would be selected to become a congressman, Governor or Senator?
