Troops based at the Kadena Air Base in Japan know how to party. On Saturday, six gay and straight service members applied some of their finest makeup and lip synced to "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" in what is believed to be first drag queen and king show on an American military base. The show was thrown in support for the base's recently formed OutServe-SLDN chapter, a nonprofit advocacy group for the army's LGBT community.
Navy Lt. Marissa Greene told Stars and Stripes she only expected to sell 75 tickets for the variety show, but ended up selling more than 400 in ten days. The event went through the same approval process as other on-base fundraisers go through, with the only caveat being that it was not allowed to be labeled a "drag show" in its publicity materials. The show was warmly received by spectators, who rocked out to performances by the likes of Manny Nuff and Chocolate Sunrise ("a crowd favorite," the website notes.)
Just a few years ago, performances like these would have been grounds for a possible discharge. The repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell has made it possible for events like this to occur.
And please don’t forget that a good number of GOP Senators voted to “enhance” the U.S. Military in this fashion.
Thanks for the warning. I’ll pass this one up.
No doubt this will enhance our troops’ morale and enhance their battle-readiness.
Laugh or cry? This military presents no threat to Russia or anyone else.
because if someone complained they'd probably been arrested and face a court-martial.
When the first nuke hits a major American city, I’m sure these people will be very proud of themselves.
Video? I don’t want my eyes to bleed.
and in the barracks?
I really hope Japan is not relying on these forces to defend them if China seizes their islands. Heck, these people will probably be ‘comfort women’ for Chinese soldiers.
or as Putin calls them(Obama and Kerry), ‘Pussy Riot’
Is the military really worth supporting anymore?
Is America really worth supporting anymore?
This country has become such a sick, depraved cesspool. Is it any wonder that Putin and others hold America in such contempt? I look at what has become of this country, and I just want to vomit.
One cannot have “morale” without first “moral”. This type of honor-less activity only rots out the character of the soldier and destroys his moral compass so that he is nothing more than a tool of force in the hands of the political class; an immoral opportunist bunch of would-be tyrants imposing their own vision rather than serving a greater calling.
Yeah........I'll just take your word for it.
Wonder what my Grandfather would think of today's Army?
Obama soon will be announcing his strongest response yet to the Russian aggression against Ukraine: a boycott of Russia by the Gay Olympics. ESPN will cover the announcement live, as Jason Collins and Michael Sam will be immediately behind Obama when he makes the announcement.
Members of the media, except for Fox News, will be invited to a post-announcement cocktail party, but all cellphones and other recording devices must be checked at the cloakroom.
White House event planners have arranged for drag queens dressed in costume as wedding cake bakers and wedding photographers to perform for the assembled media and other guests.
