You should try Tito’s Vodka; it’s made in Texas and is distilled five times. As for Smirnoff, are you sure it’s Russian made?

Its no secret, Putin wants to reconstitute the old Soviet Union and reestablish its power and influence. He’s already succeeded to a remarkable degree. Look at his actions in Syria, Iran, Egypt, etc. Putin is on the rise; we are on the decline (under Obama).

I suppose it’s valid comparison if you’re pro-Soviet, if you believe the Soviet Union was a legitimate state, and if you’re a communist. If you’re a conservative American who knows something about Russian and Ukrainian history you wouldn’t think Ukraine is as Russian as Texas is American. They’ve different histories and different languages. The Soviets starved Ukrainians in the 1930s so they could get their grain to build their economy. The cruelties Russia and the Soviets have inflicted on the Ukrainians were so bad they welcomed NAZIS. Ukraine should be free of Russia.

They still consider Crimea their port. They have a lot of gas pipelines running through Ukraine servicing Europe that probably account for a good chunk of the Russian budget.

Putin is not going to walk away and say “OK, you can have it”.

Thank God - once Russia has brought stability to the region Russia will again protect the minorities who have lived there for ages...unlike the crazies in power in Ukraine now.

So true. Those who saw through Putin years ago were mocked for it. Now, we’re stuck with those who mocked us as the people who will have to stop the Putin push for Peter the Great status to fulfill his own vast ego.

The governments of Russia, Europe and the EU are anti-small business and quite corrupt. Just like the United States, just more so.

This is why the EU is in just as bad financial shape as the US, if not worse.

The rich skate on taxes and make sure that laws and regulations keep small businesses in a choke hold.

The average citizen in the EU can, in theory, start a small business, but they’re truthfully trapped in an environment with high legal risk and liability, corruption and high taxes. This keeps the little people, a.k.a. the sheeple, working and paying their whole life, while only a very few ever amass any significant wealth.

Most of the smaller EU newcomer nations are economic basket cases.

The Ukrainian economy is controlled by its oligarchs, who do business with both the West and Russia.

No matter who has the reins of government, the financial situation for the average Ukrainian under the oligarchs will not suddenly change if their government submits Ukraine to EU authority.

But EU authority will allow EU to dictate most government policy in terms of economics, the environment, the law, etc.

Try on “the law” for size. This is a brief summary of legal systems under EU dictates:

“He’s a dangerous nut”

Actually, you have it completely reversed. Obama is the complete nut.

Putin is the calm LEADER using all of the tricks of the trade to garner the support of his people. Read Machiavelli’s “the Prince”.

You don’t have to like it, but that is the way of things.

I expect them to surrender. Fighting with no hope of resupply and reinforcement is criminally senseless.

I haven't seen any indication that they want to fight the Russians. At least not the Crimeans, and probably most in eastern Ukraine. They don't want to go with the westerners and become socialist subjects of the Euroweenies.

There were Americans who praised Hitler out of hate for FDR too. I won’t play that game. I oppose Obama and Putin. I’m consistently pro freedom, not just an anti-Obama partisan.

Why not let the Ukrainians decide if they want the EU? If they do, let them have it. If it’s a mistake, it’s their mistake. By what right does Putin stop them? That’s what you must defend.

You miss the point completely, it seems.

I/we aren’t cheering Putin. We are noting the VAST difference in leadership.

This is the cost of having a weak and spineless ideologue that no one respects in the White House. We may not want the job of World Policeman, but if we don’t do it, who is going to??

This is how world wars start.
