From the article:

The parliament also called for guarantees of the memorandum signed by Ukraine, Britain, Russia and the United States in Budapest in 1994. That agreement guaranteed Ukraine’s sovereignty and current borders in exchange for surrendering the nuclear weapons that were left after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

It appears Russia is saying the Ukraine governmnet is not legitimate so the treaty is void.

Really doesn’t matter what other countries say/do if the Ukrainian military isn’t willing to fight a big war with Putin right now.

Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize while in office for only three weeks. This whole will be a piece of cake for him, this whole misunderstanding will all be settled in the next few days if not hours (end sarcasm here).

There is not much we can do short of going to war with Russia. It may be that the Ukraine and The Crimea will just be divided.

Obama has not got the guts or the wits to play with Putin. He has not got an SOS with the brains or gravitas to carry out a plan if he had one.

The only chess piece to play is for the US and the EU to do what they did in the Georgia episode and make Putin believe he will be shunned by the West if he proceeds. Thats what Sarkozy flew to Moscow to tell him when he was getting ready to take all of Georgia. He got Ossetia and now he will get Crimea but not all of Ukraine. He’s been planning this for 5-6 years.

Sorry. We don’t have the troops. Obama is downsizing the Army to WWII levels. That is 4 companies and maybe two extra platoons of infantry.

I think Vlad knows he can’t have all of the Ukraine. He will be happy with Crimea and keeping his port on the Black Sea. He has been wanting to do this for a long time.

A NOTE FROM THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE

Regarding your recent request for assistance: sorry, but you’ve caught us at a bad time and we won’t be able to help in your struggle for freedom. Try to hold out until January 2017. Hopefully, we’ll be in a better position to help you out then. Good luck and hang in there.

pro-Russian gunmen seized both main airports on the Crimean Peninsula

Let's be realistic. Before the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, there were husky, light-skinned young civilian males mysteriously hanging about in Kabul.

Spetsnaz.

He’ll take as much as he can get and save the rest for later. That’s what I mean by salami slicing.

Khrushchev had no business giving it away in the first place.

He was just trying to throw a bone to the Ukrainians, since he acted as Stalin’s representative to the Ukraine, and he wanted to win them over to give him leverage in his power struggle.

Perfect.

*footnote: We’re too busy decreasing the size of our military and increasing the number of those on food stamps.

From what I’ve read, the parts of Ukraine that are pro Russian have more businesses and less unemployment.
