Good Samaritan Backfire: or How I Ended Up in Solitary After Calling 911 for HelpĀ

I live in a new gilded age in a golden city. But sometimes the cracks show, even here. The façade crumbles and you find yourself naked, in solitary confinement, in a wretched, feces-stained prison.

How? As a result of my efforts to help injured bicyclists by calling 911, I was, in short order: separated from my friend, violently tackled, arrested, taken to county jail, stripped and left in a solitary cell. I am writing this story because, if it could happen to me, it could happen to you, and I feel the need to do something to help prevent this brutality from propagating.

I moved to San Francisco 9 years ago for graduate school at UCSF and currently run a company that brings transparency to the food industry and employs 12 people. It may appear to be self-serving for me to say so, but I am a rational and peaceful person whom no reasonable being would deem a threat.

Another missive from the front lines at Ground Zero of the Liberals’ war on humanity.

The writer is definitely a liberal and definitely an immature boy. I can’t trust him, don’t know if the story is real, but I don’t trust cops either so it could be true.

If true, they made the mistake of calling the police, then made the mistake in trusting the police would be there to help.

He then actually files a complaint with the department, still thinking there is some ‘justice’ he is going to see.

Finally, the liberal does his public service duty for us by posting this:

In the hope that it might help some other idealistic, nerdy people from following me down that rabbit hole, I conclude with several public service announcements:

Don’t call 911. Obviously, there are exceptions, but the sad lesson is, there are fewer than you’d think.

Call Lyft to take you to the hospital. (Worked well when I broke my elbow.)

Take such incidents to trial, where justice isn’t veiled by the POBAR. It’s not a matter of litigious vindictiveness. It’s just the only available way. The SF Office of Citizen Complaints is not a valid alternative.

Consider wearing a video camera at all times. It has been shown that when police wear cameras and are aware of being filmed, it moderates their behavior. As self reports of the need to use force decrease, so do complaints.

He brings transparency to the food industry? Does that mean that he’s a Saran Wrap salesman?

And by the way, I don’t believe a word of this story.

If there are any “good” lawyers in SF, I suggest the writer contact them and perhaps, just perhaps he MAy get some justice when/after the judge finds in his favor. Then, as the new owner of SF, “clean house” at the police station.

Unfortunately, fat chance of that ever happening, he lives in “liberalville”.

Gosh, isn’t this Pelosi’s district? Obozo’s class warfare in action. Sounds like a Brown Shirt training center.

The cops told him to leave and he didn’t, that was a big mistake.

Law enforcement has been co-opted to protect the government, not the people.

“Forgetting would be disrespectful to the officers who don’t accept this behavior as commonplace, and don’t want to be liable for actions of a minority of their peers. It would also be a fatalistic admission that such violence is acceptable.”

I have lost faith in the “minority of their peers” argument. This is an institutional problem. Cops make up the institution and create the culture. So cops are the problem.

“Don’t call 911. Obviously, there are exceptions, but the sad lesson is, there are fewer than you’d think.”

Words of wisdom.

“Take such incidents to trial, where justice isn’t veiled by the POBAR. It’s not a matter of litigious vindictiveness. It’s just the only available way. The SF Office of Citizen Complaints is not a valid alternative.”

Lawyer up, if you can afford it.

“Consider wearing a video camera at all times. It has been shown that when police wear cameras and are aware of being filmed, it moderates their behavior. As self reports of the need to use force decrease, so do complaints.”

This is actually potentially dangerous. The cops might just kill you, throw your camera in the river because you are wearing one.

So LEO who populate Free Republic. Where are you? I am sure you can roll out the old “we only are seeing one side of the story” routine”. Are you guys getting tired of defending your own?

It is time for Cops to change their institution. Nobody can do it for you. It needs to be done while it can still be done.

Yeah, the author's "conclusions" don't include the obvious foundational one that San Francisco is a homosexual Communist police state tyranny.

And this genius called those police. His UC "education" was overpriced.

Big cities, big forces, more out of control. Myself, others i know, been through like incidents right here in NYC. React first is their motto if you will. They feel above the law. Unions backing them all the way does nothing to alleviate the situation either

Why should he?

Doesn’t sound like he was preventing anyone from executing their duties.

Sucks what happened. But it sounds pretty typical. Maybe he just didn’t know it is the norm. Wonder if supports affirmative action, the militarization of the police, the war on drugs, the nanny state, and everything else that has led us to this point. Officer, deputy, sherrif, trooper are all more correct. Using “sir” is obsequious.

Respect Mah Auth-O-Rity peasant.

So you are cool with heavy handed violent cops? I hope you don’t vote.

As long as the knee jerk reaction of citizens is to minimize abuse the well documented and established issue of violence by cops will continue.

Stay quiet. Do you think this issue will improve?

Dear Mom; I was drinking in a bar and then went out walking the streets of San Francisco at 1am when the police came by. I attempted to show them how much smarter than them I am. They whupped on me! Sonny

Dear Sonny; the only good thing on the streets of San Francisco after 6pm are the street sweeping trucks. Mom
