Federal judge strikes down Va. ban on gay marriage
The Washington Post ^ | February 13, 2014 | Robert Barnes

A federal judge in Norfolk struck down as unconstitutional Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriage Thursday night, saying the country has “arrived upon another moment in history when We the People becomes more inclusive, and our freedom more perfect.”

U.S. District Judge Arenda L. Wright Allen issued a sweeping 41-page opinion that mentioned at length Virginia’s past in denying interracial marriage and quoted Abraham Lincoln. She struck the constitutional amendment Virginia voters approved in 2006 that both bans same-sex marriage and forbids recognition of such unions performed elsewhere.

She stayed her decision pending appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit in Richmond, meaning same-sex marriages will be not be immediately available in the commonwealth.

Virginia Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D), who had switched the state’s legal position on the issue and joined two gay couples in asking that the ban be struck down, has said the state will continue to enforce the prohibitions until the legal process is completed.

Wright Allen showed no hesitation in overturning the state constitutional amendment, saying none of the reasons proponents offer for denying same-sex marriages make legitimate governmental interests...

So, states have NO rights?

The US Constitution "guarantees" gay marriage?

Do I have that correctly?

Freedom to create a hell for ourselves?

O-tay.

That was always potentially in the cards when this crazy thing called the USA was launched. There was a lot of liberty in the system because it didn’t need to be a ham handed dictatorship. The Christian gospel (thanks to many Christian societies that fled to the New World to be free of oppression in the Old) took care of most of the moral problems that would otherwise handicap the ability to “pursue happiness.” It wasn’t a perfect implementation. Slavery is one curse that we’d all gladly go back in a time machine and rid from America’s past if we could. But it was still pretty good.

We have a God problem more than we have a judge problem. We’re ignoring Him. He’s getting mad, and is letting such problems start to build up as a warning of what happens when we ignore Him. We aren’t even close to being Sodom to the heart, yet. But we show some outer crusts of it.

If you put people with no moral center into positions of power, it doesn’t matter what the law is. To the lawless, the law is what they say it is.

I take the opposite view. Law that is not in harmony with moral law is not law. It is tyranny.

Fed judge just mandated KY must recognize homosexual marriages from other states yesterday.

Genesis 19 will now be done by the force of “law”.

When you are nothing but a serf, you have no say so in what your overlords decide is best for you.

Eat your peas and arugula. Sit down. Shut up. Have homosexual sex and learn to like it.

It’s the new normal.

Well, there’s gotta be a God centered rebellion.

If God’s children will stand up and fight.

Now this is not necessarily coterminous with “conservatism.” Conservatism conserves! (duh). Both good and bad equally.

But what liberalism liberates right now looks mostly like hell. We need to allow God, and not politics, the center of our world.

What if there was no “ban”, what if the state just didn’t recognize those unions as marriage?

That there is the whole crux of everything that ails us.

A God-centered rebellion was the cause that gave our Founders cause moral justification for war and victory over tyrants.

Putting God first in a Sodom-esque society will result in the ratcheting up of hatred and efforts to squash faith under the color of law.

Then a God-centered people need to stand up and fight, to war until the enemy is defeated.

But this people have thus far decided that nothing is worth fighting for - not even their faith and right to religious exercise, because they bought the Satanic lie that they should not judge or make a stand for what is right if it offends someone.

It’s Acirema, where criminals are rewarded and law abiders are punished. Why bother voting when one judge outweighs the majority?

Upside down flag time.

First, “marriage” has always been between man and woman.

What homosexuals want is to change the meaning of the word. They then claim that, under this modified meaning, they are being excluded.

If the meaning of words must be changed it is proof of a lie.

If the meaning of words can be altered then there are no limits. Why stop at “marriage”, why not include other words? They’re all up for grabs when words have no fixed meaning. If the meaning of words can be altered at will then there are no limits, lies become truth and truth becomes a lie.

Altering the meaning of words is how the left re-frames an issue to advance their agenda. Don’t let them get away with it.

Secondly, a “license” to marry is absurd.

The stroke of a pen, and an agenda driven judge supersedes states rights. I’m fairly certain the Framers didn’t allow for gay marriage in the document, so can’t this be challenged with the 10 Amendment..

No Judges only INTERPRET laws. If we, the people, enact laws (or allow to be enacted) that forget God, compromise morality or raise "liberty" onto too high a pedestal, then inevitably Judges will rule like this. How can they do otherwise?

The point is the battle was lost when, in the mind of the citizenry, the institution of marriage went from being "a divine institution, ordained by God", and became only "two people entering and confirming a loving relationship". To be sure, marriage DOES confirm a loving relationship, but if that is ALL it is, then there really is no legal or logical justification for dissallowing same-sex "marriages", or polygamous "marriages", or even incestuous "marriages". I'm quite sure that within fifty years you will be allowed to "marry" your pet dog, your computer avatar, and maybe even your wallpaper.

Personally, I do not accept such "marriages". Period. End of story. I don't care how much snark, peer pressure or legal obligations are layed upon me. I will not recognise a same-sex couple as being "married". No.

The ignorance of certain jurists has me wanting to fling the crap they come up with right back at them.

The gay false marriage is nothing at all like interracial marriage between a man and a woman. The essentials of marriage are not changed if the spouses are of a different race. Also the ban on such marriages was an innovation of the American South for a very short time in history. That can not be said of the prohibition of marriage between those of the same sex.

I shudder to think what these rulings will mean for this and future generations of children. The State governs marriage because of children. But their rights and needs now take second base to the unnatural desires of adults.

Actually, I don’t see how you avoid approving three-person marriages, or guys having five wives at this point. The same logic works in those cases. I’ll make a prediction that some county in Utah approves multiple wives within two years, and a court episode approves it nationwide within the next decade.

In France....they have a law dating back to the 1800s....you can legally marry a ghost. The deal is...if you were engaged, and the guy dies (like in war or such)....and relatives of the guy will vouch for your reasoning...a judge will approve you marrying his ghost and taking up his property. Up until the 1980s....I think it’d only been used one since the turn of the century. Course, I should point this out....France is a fairly progressive society. Plus the positive side of a ghost marriage....you don’t have to worry about divorces much.

Isaiah 5:20:

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

This is the time in which we live. When society calls evil good, and good evil. A society that presents sin as righteousness and denounces what is right as a wrong. Who change the meaning of words and call them the opposite of what they are.

Lose a job or your hours due to ObamaCare? It will be called freedom from ‘job lock’. Slavery is freedom. Good is evil. Truth is a lie.

Welcome to a collapsing society at the precipice of annihilation.
