Illinois Electricity Customers Forced to Get 'Smart Meters' or Pay Fine
Weekly Standard ^ | Feb 13, 2014 | MICHAEL WARREN

In the early days of the Obama administration, “smart power” was all the rage—and not just on the foreign policy scene. In April 2009, National Public Radio reported how one Allentown, Pennsylvania, mother was saving more than a hundred dollars each month on her electric bill. Tammy Yeakel’s power company, PPL Energy, had helpfully installed a “smart meter” on her home that could monitor her power usage in real time. The meter uploaded that information to PPL’s website, so she could identify peak usage times during the day

This is as predictable as it is horrible. In the Peoples' Republic of Illinois the DemnonCraps are requiring installation of "smart meters." The first group of victims are, appropriately, the Commonwealth Edison customers. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Illinois, that's the entire Chicago area, the corruption sink that spawned the Mahdi. Even richer, Commonwealth Edison was run by Thomas Ayers, Bill Ayres' father, who did much to help the Mahdi in the earlier stages of the Mahdi's career. Talk about "chickens coming home to roost."

Smart meters would be a big reason to become as self-sufficient on solar as much as possible.

Who didn’t know this was coming? Next you will keep you thermostat at the government mandated temperature or be fined or imprisoned.

New bootleg business opportunity: devices to control what information is sent back to the power company, and what messages are allowed in.

"Next you will keep you thermostat at the government mandated temperature or be fined or imprisoned."

That's the whole purpose of Mahdimeters, especially for law abiding white people. Of course, I do get great schadenfreud from seeing the residents of Stinkburg, who imposed the Mahdi on the rest of us, being the first to get screwed by the DemonCraps, up the anus and out the navel.

You won't have to bother.

The government will set the temperature for you at the Federal Center For Affordable Residence Climate Control.

It’s coming to my neighborhood in Michigan in 2015. I will be paying the “fee” to keep it out of my house.

How long will it take for some crook that works for the power company to figure out that power usage will determine when someone is/isn't home, and sell that info to burglars?

Everytime you leave home, turn the tv on and the heat up for the cats.

I have had one of these for 10 years. Still trying to figure out why people are afraid of them.

I am only charged for what power I use, no estimates. No one comes into my back yard to read the meter any more. The Coop does not have to pay a meter reader. The meter reader can no longer help out his friends by under reading the meter. Did I mention my annual total bill went down? It has stayed down too.

The power company knows my power is out as soon as I do. If I am asleep, sooner.

Do not forget the cell phone company can do this too.

Timers on the lights and the TV can confuse this.

That would really save ya money./sarc

Seriously though, they would know when someone was home, the address of the home ( rich district ), and likely how much money you have based on your credit score.

That kind of info would be valuable to a burglar.

But that there solar would kill all of the brilliant firepersons. ;-)

By the time it you figure out it will be too late to do anything about it. Sort of like mass NSA surveillance.

Just move to a place that has this, no choice, it was already there. The little secret here $1.53 per day just for having the meter turned on. One hell of a regressive fee (I call tax since the power company is a city owned utility). It hurts the poor most. Say some elderly person is able to get their usage down to $45 per month this fee doubles their fee to $90, a 100% tax.

Another person that has a $450 monthly usage which is possible with AC in the south in a large house, that extra $45 dollars is a 10% tax. Extremely regressive, but the local liberals like it. They sock it to the poor.

Might be a good time to invest in gas and electric fireplaces. I foresee a whole lot of gas fireplaces getting installed over the next 10 years.

Between not being able to keep track of my doings and another persons life, it’s not much of a choice.

We can always get another fire fighter. It pays well.
