Energy official: Electricity prices to soar 80 percent, thanks to EPA coal regulations
Washington Examiner ^ | FEBRUARY 11, 2014 | Ashe Schow

Regulations for new coal plants would increase electricity prices by as much as 80 percent, an Obama administration official told lawmakers on Tuesday.

Julio Friedmann, deputy assistant secretary for clean coal at the DEPArtment of Energy, told members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's oversight board that carbon capture and storage technology was still not ready for prime time.

“The precise number will vary, but for first generation we project $70 to $90 per ton [on the wholesale price of electricity],” Friedmann said. “For second generation, it will be more like a $40 to $50 per ton price. Second generation of demonstrations will begin in a few years, but won’t be until middle of the next decade that we will have lessons learned and cost savings.”

This means that the CCS technology the administration is pushing for would increase electricity prices initially, but that prices would come down a bit once better technology is developed. But electricity prices would still be higher than they are now.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s New Source Performance Standards require new coal-fired plants to implement CCS technology in an effort to reduce carbon emissions, but Friedmann’s statement makes it clear that the technology is not ready for market.

I wonder how much economic suffering it takes to convert a libtard to a conservative.

unless you can get them to understand basic economics, never. they will just think businesses raise prices to exploit poor people, or get back at people, make life miserable for people, and are rich beyond all measure, and all their monies are at the back of the store in boxes kept in the boss’ closet.

because this is what libtards believe and preach and re-affirm to each other every day.

“I wonder how much economic suffering it takes to convert a libtard to a conservative.”

Quite a damn bit, because they are subsidized.

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.

“Fundamentally transforming America” always meant turning America into a one-party Soviet-style state with the democrat communist party in perpetual political power. In order to do that, the affluent independent GOP controlled suburban voters had to be herded into the collectives of the cities and converted into dependent reliable democrats. Suburban living is predicated on two things: good paying jobs and cheap energy.

When you look at the policies of this regime, all of them are consistent with the goals of depriving the suburbs of the jobs and energy they need to exist.

Fundamentally transforming America.

It was acted on. During the 2008 election.

The one where the coal mining unions backed Obama.

We are all suffering because a slim majority of Americans are stupid beyond measure.

I wonder how much economic suffering it takes to convert a libtard to a conservative.

I used to ask myself the same question, but, over the years, I learned to accept the answer. There is no amount of economic suffering that will convert a liberal communist [call them what they are].

All economic suffering is caused by private corporations. Period. Only government can help us.

And, it is exactly what the TV told the uninformed to vote for.

Remember how it was racist to mention that Obama said, “Under my plan, electricity prices would, out of necessity, rise...”?

“And the PUBBIES sit on their hands!!!...with rags in their mouths!!! “

Rags stuffed there by an enemy media that has determined that any criticism of Democrat/Obama policies is racist, phobic, or crazy, because it might endanger the mostly gay media’s gay political support.
