Gee, I didn't know that Congress eliminated unemployment compensation completely.. how did I miss that?
73 weeks seems excessive
How long do you need to work to get 73 weeks of checks?
I saw that too and also had a WTF moment.
I’m guessing they simply shifted the unemployment benefits to the 57 states.
“(b) go back to college to get a worthless degree and then live off financial aid and student loans that they will never be able to pay back.”
The number of people I know personally that are doing this would floor you....
If there are no jobs to be had in this country, how is it that illegal aliens keep crossing our borders to find work, and they find it?
Are these illegal aliens taking jobs that unemployed Americans need? If these jobs weren’t filled by illegal aliens, would unemployed Americans take them?
No, unemployed Americans won’t take these low paying jobs as long as unemployment benefits pay them more to stay home than they can make at these jobs.
If our borders were sealed and all illegal aliens were sent home, would employers be forced to pay Americans wages that would be competitive with unemployment benefits in order to fill these jobs currently held by illegals?
No, this isn’t going to happen because we’re told it’s impossible to seal our borders, and sending illegals home would adversely affect the Hispanic vote in this country.
And in a couple of years she might have shown her new employer $70k worth of value and got back to that wage. Oh, wait...Obamacare kicks in and they can't afford her.
They could always go to the White House,I heard somewhere on the RADIO,NOT TV,that they spent over 400 grand on a dinner last night in a tent in 17 degree weather! They must have some left overs, let them eat cake
Your graph reminds me of a radar track of a plane as it’s plunging to the ground. Sad state of affairs.
They punt ¿¿¿
I’d like to see if we could test your theory; figure out how to get rid of illegals and then see how many American clamor for the jobs.
I understand, Jim. I took some terrible jobs when unemployed too. Was grateful for them. Fortunately they always led to something better.
I think that’s how it works. YOu get yourself into the workforce even if it means starting over at ground level, and then you grow the job or something better turns up. It used to work that way, not so sure there are that many “better” things around the corner now.
Fortunately, the low-pay job my daughter has now can lead onward and upward. She’s all about hard work and advancement, I think her new field will be good for her.
“They go on disability ( crazy checks ).”
They become artists, by learning how to draw.
But seriously, if you can’t find something, it’s time to move where there IS something to do. If you haven’t saved up enough for that, I don’t know what can be done.
It does annoy me, that people who are actually disabled are getting a bad reputation from the amazingly expanded definition of the word “disabled”.
It amazes me how people who work hard, gain new job skils and education, and are productive employees are also often “lucky.”
You are right...I was only considering liberals who wouldn’t work if they could.
Yeah, and the people getting these ‘bi-polar disability’ benefits end up getting more $$$ from social security per month than most Americans get after working their entire lives and actually contributing to the system throughout their working careers. To each according to their “presumed need”.
Welkome to the new Amerikka ala the Obama Marxists.
Yup. Even my first computer job way back in ‘73 was a low paying, part-time, night shift computer operator job. I took it and even though I was not paid to program, I wrote programs on my own time that made my job much more efficient. So much that they asked me to write more and eventually worked into full-time programming.
Btw, the federal government has no business whatsoever being involved in the unemployment insurance business. Or the disability insurance business, nor health insurance. Nor foodstamps or free phones. Or safety nets. None of these are within the enumerated powers. They’re clearly left to the states and the people. Unemployment insurance is a state and local problem.
finally do a serious job search.
take jobs they would not have previously considered taking.
Well..I don’t know how to do any of those things.
new song
99 weeks unemployed (to 99 red balloons)
“It amazes me how people who work hard, gain new job skils and education, and are productive employees are also often lucky.”
I would pass a business every day on the way to work where I knew the son of the man who owned it. He has a letter sign that said “Make your own luck”. I have never forgotten this.
