A local congressional candidate now says she will not be hiring a cyber-security firm to look into claims that someone hacked her campaigns website.
The situation started in September, 2013, when Democrat Martha Robertsons campaign sent an e-mail out to supporters claiming GOP ops were trying to hack their website. In early October, the Robertson campaign backed off the GOP ops claim during an interview with WETM, but presented evidence showing there were multiple SQL injection attacks made on the website. And during an interview with the political site Roll Call, Robertson state the campaign was looking into hiring a cyber-security firm to investigate the hacking.
Well we are working to hire a cyber-security firm to take a serious look at that, investigate everything that's happened, said Robertson in the interview.
After the campaigns 4th quarter FEC filing came out, WETM looked at their expenditures. There was no indication the campaign had hired a cyber-security firm.
When WETM asked the Robertson campaign about the lack of any cyber-security related expenditure, campaign manager Jordanna Zeigler said, "We looked into the matter and found that there were 9 SQL Injection attacks on our website in a very short period of time. Since these attacks were unsuccessful, no police report was filed. We felt we had adequate protections and securities that did not require any further investment but we stand vigilant against any possible attempts to sabotage our campaign."
Local Republican leaders have claimed that Robertsons e-mail constituted wire fraud, and have asked the FBI to investigate. Theres no word on if an investigation is happening or will happen. Congressman Tom Reeds campaign has also called on Robertson to return the money she raised with the e-mail. The Robertson campaign has flatly refused to do that, saying they raised the money in a completely legitimate way.
Robertson is, as you might have guessed, from Ithaca, the City of Evil.
So, she lied about her opponent and falsely put the media meme out there that the Republicans will resort to illegal tactics.
And then she raised campaign money specifically to combat such attacks which she will now put in her general campaign chest.
From one the comments on Legal Insurrection, it seems that the type of attacks she is whining about, happens dozens of times every day to practically every website by botnets searching for vulnerable computers to infest.
Let me guess, it was a lie from the start
As my brother would say, “Democrats, when they speak, they lie. When silent, they are stealing.”
