When Coloradans flip on their lights or crank up their heat, they expect their electricity to be affordable, and at the very least, reliable. But the state Legislature and Gov. John Hickenlooper are forcing the opposite on Colorado expensive and unreliable wind energy.
The wind lobby today is one of the fattest hogs at the corporate welfare trough. Rather than win customers through good prices and reliable products, the wind lobby uses political clout to force consumers to purchase its overpriced services. Currently, a state law requires that 12 percent of the states electricity be generated by so-called green energy. That mandate increases to 20 percent next year, and will jump to 30 percent by 2020 for investor-owned utilities. Senate Bill 252, signed by the governor last year, imposes a 20 percent mandate on rural cooperative electric associations. These jumps will only increase the cost of electricity.
The wind industry is green in the sense that it lines its pockets with taxpayer subsidies. The federal $12 billion wind production tax credit was increased to 2.3 cents per kilowatt-hour in 2013. Although Congress decided not to renew this particular form of corporate welfare, the Obama administration has decided to keep the welfare money flowing anyway. The Internal Revenue Service issued guidance that allowed projects under construction and generating electricity by Jan. 1, 2016, to also claim the tax credit, which lasts for 10 years.

almost all the wind power construction today exists only because of taxpayer subsidies...
Besides being expensive, wind power is unreliable

Society figured that out about 200 years ago.
Today’s winner of the coveted NSS award (No Sh** Sherlock).
No one can depend on wind energy!
You could if you put a turbine in front of the Obaminator’s
pie hole....you could light up a mall with the hot air he
expels on a daily basis.
Read some C.S. Forester. His stories about the British Navy are highly instructive about the wretched unreliability of wind power.
Why Not?
No more liberals live there?
They should ship it in from Washington DC.....There’s enough hot wind coming from there to fuel the globe.
But; would not the same effect take place against whomever the Brits were up agin at the time?
"Tis an ill wind that...
Chickenpooper is up for re-election. Missing in action for four years, he shoved this wind power down our throats. We’ve been overrun by Calfornicators, east coast morons, who come here to vote for the same stuff that they fled from. The commies redistricted half of conservative Arvada into a new district that includes the People’s Republic of Boulder. At one time, half the states workers were Federal employees. Fort Collins was conservative except for CSU, hence the new Climate Change office being located there.
I went to Lowry in the 60’s for tech school.
This flatland Indiana boy loved the place so much I wanted to move there after my time was up.
I was only gone 3 years, but when that was over; I didn’t want to any more.
All of the West has!
I also fell in love with MOAB; but they over ran the place; drove up property 'values' and generally priced me out of the market.
And, to add insult to injury, one can no longer get a Uranium Burger at the SlickRock Café!
The scary part is that while all these transplant libs polluted adjacent states, California got even MORE BLUE.
The replacements are more liberal than the ones who left.
Yow!
Having spent a few days at the local maternity hospital here in Indiana, I can testify that even here not too many future Republicans are being born.
Or future Liberals.
They have to be TAUGHT!!!!
When are we gonna get OFF of our asses and keyboards and get back the control of the teaching and propaganda machines?
Well since so many FReepers seem terrified of FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc, where most youngsters hang out, I don’t see much change ahead.
