He should worry. This early, none of the candidates have much public name recognition except Ken Buck, who carries baggage over from his last failed campaign.

As someone else on FR called them, the Udalls are a bunch of political meddlers and need to pass into the oblivion of history.

I see that about Colorado every election. Republicans have it this time and end up not getting it.

Coloradian’s need to go for the throat.

Instead they will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again.

The poll, from Quinnipiac University, shows Udall topping no more than 45 percent against any of the five announced Republicans in the race.

State Sen. Randy Baumgartner and state Rep. Amy Stephens both hold Udall to the slimmest lead, each taking 41 percent to his 43 percent support.

Against former Republican Senate nominee Ken Buck, Udall takes 45 percent to Buck’s 42 percent support.

The Democrat leads state Sen. Owen Hill by five percent, with 44 percent support, and tops businessman Jaime McMillan by seven points, with 45 percent support.

Not the best pollster but there you go.

So out of all the GOP candidates throwing their hat into the Colorado Senate race, which one appears to be most closely aligned with Constitutional conservative Tea Party values? Ken Buck? Or one of the others?

If the Repubs play it right, 2014 will be a rout.

Baumgartner could beat him?! This is fantastic news. Baumgartner is the candidate the Dems have mocked for his Yosemite Sam mustache, but he’s in a statistical tie with Udall!

I’m no longer leaving this in the lean-Dem column. It’s officially a tossup.

I wouldn't put much stock in poll numbers at this point. All of the candidates besides Ken Buck are probably virtually unknown to voters. You could probably come up with a fictional name like "If the election was held today, and the candidates were Democrat Mark Udall and Republican Steve Johnson, who would you vote for?", the numbers would show Johnson 45%, Udall 42%.

The only one that voters have heard of is Ken Buck, and his "name ID" is bad for the same reason Jim Oberweis is a bad choice in Illinois -- most of the name ID is bad and probably 40% of the electorate immediately decides "no way" would they vote for that guy.

>> erick erickson is still pushing ken buck. <<

I'm honestly beginning to think this Erick Erickson guy is living up to the name of his website. I never heard of him before he founded "RedState", but every candidate I've seen him push either turns to be a RINO who ends up siding with the Dems on a major policy, or turns out to be a lousy "Tea Party" who screws up a general election and hands the victory to the Dems. Illinois has been more of a "red" state than ever since we took Erickson's advice and elected Mark Kirk to "represent" us.

I give Ericson’s endorsements as much weight as I give Mark Levin’s. (less than none)

I fear that Buck based on name recognition will be tough to beat in the primary.

Hinklepooper would prob beat Tancredo, I think Scott Gessler or one of the other candidates could beat him though.
