Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA) is behind this. Seems the apple does not fall from from the true as Bill's father was long time Rep Bud Shuster who was notorious for shoveling pork transportation projects into his Central PA district.

I’m starting to heavily question why I’m a registered Republican.

Or we could stop blowing money on bike paths and public transportation.

Well whaddaya know, the USA just happens to have the intelligence and banking infrastructure in place to track every mile driven and have the fees deducted directly from checking accounts.

If we’re not doing anything wrong why should we mind if the Federal Government keeps close tabs on us? /s

I thought that a lot of the damage to roads and bridges is caused by the behometh trucks that clutter them, and make driving unsafe for the rest of us. Why not charge the trucks a meaningful fee according to size?

It’s a tax on the big, wide-open, red states.

And I saw breathlessly excited news report after news report about the wonder of the coming talking cars. As in, “Won’t it be amazing that this technology will allow cars to talk to each other?”

Yeah, if every car is sending out data signals don’t you thing the government is either collecting them or will use them? Don’t you think the insurance companies will have access to this? Don’t you think the government will use this to track mileage and to keep tabs on suspected “terrorists”?

Why are RINOs like Obama?

Obama takes an oath to protect the US Constitution then ignores it completely.

RINOs agree on a republican party platform then ignore it completely.

Its not about the money, its about the control. RINO’s love police state tag, trace, and tax schemes like this.

Helpful chart by state, showing how much we each pay ALREADY in TAXES for a gallon of gasoline (as of 2013):

http://taxfoundation.org/article/state-gasoline-tax-rates-2009-2013

I pay 65 cents in TAXES for each gallon in Wisconsin. Ranked #14.

Guess who is the highest? Yep. New York.

I remember when Nancy Kulp from The Beverly Hillbillies moved back to PA to run against Bud Shuster. He had Buddy Ebsen cut those radio ads saying that she was “REEEEEEEEEEAL Liberal, even by Hollywood standards!” Shuster wiped the map with her and she never spoke to Ebsen again.

Shuster was corrupt as the day is long. From the Boss Hogg wing of the Republican Party. And yes, Sonny Boy is the same way.

False Assumption Number One: “Even though the Federal Government goes broke EVERY year, there still really are Federal Trust Funds, such as the Highway and Transportation Trust Fund, the Social Security Trust Fund, etc.”

We don’t need this kind of crap. They start with a small percentage, “you’ll hardly notice this tax” then raise as much and as often as they can get away with.

Nuts to this rino.

if they can force a purchase of insurance...

this is all about control.

They administrators see mass transit dying with self driving cars so the mass transit unionistas will become interstate highway sensor grid workers. (and campaign donors)

Shuster sees this as his own personal power grab.

As vehicles get more and more fuel efficient, the revenue is getting less and less. Hybrids pay far less in road taxes, despite weighing just as much. Electric cars pay no road taxes, despite weighing just as much.

The green weenies are afraid of a mileage tax on their electric cars and their plug-in and regular hybrids.

The Chevy Volt comes to mind right away as a vehicle that pays far less in road taxes than it should.

A miolage tax falls heavily on folks out west. If I go to town (shopping center) larger than my county seat (pop. 1400), it is a 120 mile round trip. The county seat is fourty miles there and back. What kind of deal would that be?

What's the point of paying more for a fuel efficient car if it's going to cost the same to drive anyway?
And why do we need yet another expensive and useless bureaucracy to keep track of the mileage on every car?
This is a huge disincentive to be "green". How come they don't see that?

RINO does not adequately describe some of the latest actions of these clods.

I think a more suitable description is Republicanus.
