BINGHAMTON, NY--Some state workers are being told not to come to work because of the snow. But it's no "snowday" for them. They are losing a vacation day.
According to Binghamton University's website, all non-essential employees are not allowed to come to work because of the state of emergency. But they'll have to use a vacation day.
good....no work....no pay...the way it should be
Big whoop! Would they rather be docked a day of pay?

So? My job's like that.
The union will sue and they will get paid...
I’m glad everyone on here had the same reaction I had. So what? That’s me every day. No work, no pay! What a concept!!
I’m only allowed to accrew 250 hours of vacation. I lose a day almost every month becase I’m maxed out, dedicated, and stupid.
If they don’t go to work, but they still get paid, how are they losing a vacation day?
I got a mandatory 8 days off at Christmas when the office closed. I got vacation days applied. I did not lose them.
I agree. Many places only give 3 snow days and then after that you are charged through leave or “Leave without pay”. It does stink that their was so much snow this year though. Most people have plenty of leave to cover some additional snow days. The worst are those who were just hired this year. Those poor folks don’t have much vacation days saved up. Hopefully they won’t have any further snow days.
lol. I get what you are saying. However, wouldn’t you rather that annual trip to Hawaii instead of a day at home shoveling snow?
I’d rather pick and choose, but if you don’t work, you either get vacation or no pay. They seem to think that they are 5th graders getting extra vacation days.
Who gets snow days in business? I’ve had 2 snow days in my life because 3 ft of snow in Baltimore paralyzed the city and they shut down traffic. 25 years of working in Michigan I never considered it. I had a few 4 hour commutes but such is life.
However, to be told to not come to work and be dinged for a vacation day is not right.
When I was active duty I would get notices for leave of “ use it or loose it”.
So I would apply for leave, and it would be denied “ due to Mission Requirements”. The next week I would get another “ use it or loses it “ letter....
However, wouldnt you rather that annual trip to Hawaii instead of a day at home shoveling snow?

Wife and I, along with our best friends couple, spent 9 horrible days in Hawaii in the early ‘90s. I’d never advise anyone to go there. ...Outrageaous prices on everything, horrible food, and locals hating all ‘mainlanders’ except for their money spent. ...After trying a couple of big restaurants, we ate mostly at non-franchised burger places and small places in the suburbs on Oahu and Maui.
Sorry for the little rant that is off topic. I couldn’t stop my fingers from speaking about how bad Hawaii is to tourists.
Hey I am in Annapolis (really Arnold). Are you off today due to lack of power? On the Baltimore station, they are making it like you guys are “crippled” due to no power. So if you are off today that makes 3 days lol.
I had a boss tell me to take open heart surgery as a vacation day.
...after the fact to boot.
A word with the president’s assistant corrected their sick time policy.
...a big correction.
