Police: Murders down 50 percent from January 2013
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | 02 feb 2014 | MICHAEL LANSU

Posted on 02/02/2014 7:48:46 AM PST by rellimpank

Chicago had half as many murders in January 2014 compared to the first month of 2013.

Police reported 20 killings in the month, which had 11 days of subzero temperature and was one of the coldest months in recent years.

“The superintendent has said weather is a factor, but its not the only factor,” said Chicago Police spokesman Adam Collins. “It neither causes nor prevents crime.”

Overall, Chicago had 50 percent fewer killings than it did in January 2013, when 40 people were murdered; 47 percent fewer slayings than January 2012, when 38 people were killed; and a 29 percent decrease from January 2011, when 28 people were murdered, police said.

-and ,while I think it's too early to have made a difference , just happens to correlate with the beginning of issuance of the long-awaited concealed weapons permits---

Officer Snow and Officer Rain are the best crime prevention assets on the farce, along with Office Chill Factor.

Lets see, its minus 55 wind chill factor outside’ I grab my trusty Glock to cap this dud and low and behold my hand after I get it out of my double insulated glove which I have to take off since my trigger finger can not fit in the trigger freezes to the gun. Nah, it not the cold that drove murders and the number of street fairs down; its good old fashion police work. Does this guy think the world is a jerk?

Just how many ccw's do you think will actually be issued in Chicago? And, what restrictions will be placed on the new holders?

Detroit police chief credits Officer Armed Citizen with helping to drive the violent crime rate down in 2013. I’m guessing the cold has driven it down considerably this January in Detroit as well.

The Police rarely admit that motivated and capable amateurs can do a much more effective job and civil service time servers.

The demise of global warming is saving the lives of a few brothers....at least until spring...I wonder if they have to work harder to get back to quota?

Wish I shared your optimism. Pre-Heller in DC it was impossible to get a handgun. Post Heller, it is only nearly impossible.

--IMHO, sometime in the next few years ,we firearms fans are either going to win or lose completely--dependent on the combination of the "uninformed voter", the mass media , the composition of Congress and the Supreme Court--

--over the last year or so , we have been winning and even a small step in a cesspool such as Chicago is a step in the right direction--

Even the Mexicans have finally figured that out.

Too cold for the gang bangers to get out on the street corner and shoot each other....or the little seven-year-old girls they usually hit.
