And today we learned that both the Governor and the director of the emergency services for the state were sleeping as those forecasts grew even more dire

Kinda like Benghazi and someone we all know?

Anybody expect anything less? I say, pass it on up the chain of command and point a finger at Obama. I mean, after all, if you are going to pass the buck, pass it all the way to the top.

Democrats, asshole one and all.

If they are going to blame anyone, it should be the entire local NBC NEWS TEAM, and other networks as well.

Did any of them warn the public about this sudden ice problem before it happened ?

I remember back around Feb of 1969 a major snowstorm hammered NYC. The mishandling of the cleanup severely damaged then mayor John Lindsay’s further political aspirations, though, in all fairness, part of the blame could be placed on an ongoing sanitation strike at the time. In a way this sounds like deja vu all over again.

Whole state of Georgia was hit with an ice storm. Only place that had major problems was a city run by democrats and the media blames republicans. Should we expect anything less from NBC?

Sure — local governments can do more but this is ridiculous. In Birmingham I am not sure when we had an event like this that trapped people in cars for 12 hours - if ever. We have had occasional ice storms but this was unexpected and a lot of people were trapped. Maybe 1982 was close? There was major ice / snow events in the 1990s but there was more lead time.

This notion that government has to ensure rare events don’t happen is absurd. What are they supposed to do — keep sand on every road in a state when the temperature falls below 32?
